“Good Hotel , great concierge service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2012

Good location, nice room with great view. Breakfast is god despite you will not find a great variety of dishes. Free wifi only in the lobby (c'mon guys).
Anyway I do recommend Mondrian if you plan to visit Miami.
What is absolutely extraordinary is the concierge service: Mr. Luis Pagan is absolutely professional and a very nice person (thank you again for the Play-off Miami Heat ticket Round 1 game 5).

Stayed here for my bachelor party in Miami. Ended up spending a lot of time at the pool because the pool scene is so great. The towel service, led by David while we were there, was awesome. Pool was always busy with very good looking clientele. The views of the Bay and Miami are pretty fantastic.

The rooms itself are actually really good size. They are very minimalist, but very cool looking. My room had an iPhone/iPod dock to play music which sounded fantastic, but one other room one of my friends was staying at did not. There were a few other things (a couch in one room and not in the others) that were inconsistent among the rooms we all got. While we're speaking of negatives, one afternoon my entire party's keys were deactivated. This was easy to fix, but still odd that it would happen. While we were at the front desk getting them recharged, other people came in with the same issue. What made this more annoying was we had to wait for the elevators, which seems to happen during the busy times. Also, it seemed like every time we went to the front desk (check in, check out, get new keys, get change, brunch recommendations), we had to wait in line. It seems like they should have more people working at the front desk to help alleviate the constant buildup of guests.

One last negative- we all agreed the picture of the woman's face in the room was odd/off-putting. I don't understand why it was there. Very strange.

Now onto some more positives- the hallway smelled amazing. Seriously. Every hallway is just beautifully fragrant, which is an odd thing to say, but it's really noticeable. Also, the pool was awesome. Great way to spend the afternoon, and obviously what the hotel is built around.

Overall, very nice hotel, with some negatives. Be prepared for ridiculously expensive prices if you book- $16 for a mixed drink at the pool, $8 beers, and $200 bathing suits in the store.

Thank you for your recent visit and remarks. We are so proud of the exceptional service the members of our Pool Experience team provide and are so pleased you enjoyed your time there. Regrettably, you had some experiences that fell short of your expectations and are certainly not our standard of service. We have addressed your concerns accordingly and appreciate any feedback that helps us improve. Thank you again for choosing the Mondrian South Beach.

Warm regards,

We just spent the weekend at the Mondrian and I was disappointed that we chose it and sorry we weren't at the Delano. I'll start out by saying two good things--the service and staff were good and the rooms were large. My compliments end there however. My biggest complaint about the hotel is the location. While its in South Beach, its off the beaten path by a long shot in an area that is run down and out of the way. And its on the bay, with no beach access. Yes we had an ocean view, but I missed being able to walk right outside the hotel and walk along the beach. I really didn't feel like I was at the beach at all because of the hotel's location. Another bad thing about this hotel is the insulation. We heard every single thing that happened in the hallway during our stay. We tried to rest on Saturday afternoon and it was impossible because the maids were in the hall being very loud (talking, laughing etc.) for at least 3 hours. It was so bad I almost called the front desk, but I figured there wasn't much they could do. Then you also hear everyone walking/talking down the hall, doors banging shut, etc. I couldn't nap or relax. The room was nice and large, but it wasn't very comfortable. There is a very strange large orange mirror that you can't see yourself in well and a very weird lady, again very large, on the wall that just stares at you. So strange. The bed wasn't very comfortable either, hard with not great sheets. And no bath tub. I hate that. Finally, I know this sounds like I'm being super picky, and this wouldn't have bothered me had all the other negatives not been present, but the pool was so hot it felt like bathwater and the halls weren't air conditioned so you stepped out in the hall and felt like you'd walked outside because they were so damp and humid. There, I'm done. If you can't tell, I won'tstay here again.

Thank you for your recent visit and the comments associated with your stay. We appreciate your endorsement of our fine staff, as well as of our sister property, but are sorry to have fallen short of your expectations in other areas of service and location. We're rather proud of our amazing sunset views on Biscayne Bay and the beautiful Miami skyline, but understand when a guest prefers the ocean side of South Beach. Thank you again for taking the time to help us improve by posting issues during your stay.

After some very busy days on South Beach, Their is no better place to in wind for a couple of night before the flight home. Situated on west ave, away from the hustle of SOBE the Mondrian is pure Miami through & through - big rooms great views of either the Down Town or South Beach. Service is world class and from an ex hotel manager in some of the worlds best hotels that's saying something! From the moment you arrive to the dreaded check out time your in an Alice in wonderland setting. The pool is outstanding - You will possible find some great deals on room by going to other wed site as the hotel is not cheap but worth every $$$ . Try airbandb.com or elitecitystays who deal with the owners of the apartments direct. You can save up to 70% on published rates. Try the restaurant for dinner and cocktails at the side of the pool at sun set....... hope you enjoy as much as i do and will again very soon

Room Tip: Try a Down Town room - make sure you have a balcony as some rooms don't have one! Get a high flo...

I usually stay at the Delano, but this time i tried the Mondrian the Delano's sister hotel... This place is not as uppity as the Delano, but quite nice... Its not on a beach, its on the bay... but its a beautiful scenery of the city over the bay.. We had a sweet suite overlooking the water.. It was our first wedding anniversary, and after a day out we came back to a room with some extra goodies that the staff had left for us to celebrate our day with.. I absolutely loved the shower! The front dest manager Emar is just awesome!! he went out of his way to make sure that our stay was just perfect. Go have dinner at Asia de Cuba.... delicious!! What a chic place to stay... your going to like it..

Room Tip: get a room on the water side so you don't miss out out on the beautiful bay/city view

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Located on newly-fashionable West Avenue, Mondrian is a quiet enclave just minutes from the bustling center of South Beach, offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami. The visionary style of designer Marcel Wanders is apparent from the moment you pull into the porte-cochere: guests walk through a grand entryway appointed with custom-designed furniture, lighting and accent pieces, evoking Wanders' design homage of "Sleeping Beauty's Castle." Upon entering the soaring lobby, the floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning views of Biscayne Bay. Immediately the eye is drawn to the masterpiece of the room–an iconic, signature "floating staircase." Black and gold patterned furnishings and oversized brass bell shaped lights add a touch of whimsy and welcome guests to sit and socialize or enjoy the view. ... more   less
