Visited the Zoo Lights event for the first time. Unfortunately was quite disappointed. The entire event, (which is half the cost of a daytime admission for the whole zoo), is located only in the front entrance of the zoo. The entire event can be seen in under an hour, as the only animal exhibits open are the tigers, everglades area, and the indoor glass displays inside Dr. Wilde's World. The trail just past the entrance is barricaded off, and unlit. The Snowman's River Ride was a disappointment as well. There was not much change from the Lostman's River Ride during the day. The zoo could have made more of an effort and included animatronic displays during the boat ride and more decor, but it was extremely lacking with dollar store quality displays. There were no animal shows during the evening. The lights on the walking trails were nice, as was the computerized light show synchronized to music. Not an event I would run back to.

The zoo is very big so it’s best to rent a quadricycle to see it all. The monorail is an option but it’s hard to see the animals from it. We walked and were exhausted. They have poles with buttons to press for a short misting. Go in the morning when the animals are more active before the heat of the day. Good variety of animals separated by different parts of the world: Asian, Australian, African, Amazon and Florida Everglades. They’ve tried to make the habitats as genuine as possible and there were few cages. Open 10 to 5 with a 25% off senior discount. They check your ID. Overpriced vending machines and it seemed like it cost extra to do almost anything extra. Still a great way to spend the day if it’s not too hot.

The Miami zoo is a beautifully maintained zoo. However, many times I've visited, I haven't seen animals in their prospective areas. The zoo is quite large, so I recommend doing only certain areas at a time and coming back a second time to do other areas. Planning is key to visiting here. The food is a but pricey and not that tasty...therefore, I recommend packing a lunch and plenty of water.

Two of our grown children with kids live in area south of Miami. One lives in Corla Terrace and the other in Palmetto Bay. The Miami Zoo off SW 152nd St. is great place in the middle to spend a day with their combined 5 kids. Easy to park and easy to get around. If you rent the bikes it saves a lot of walking since the park is large. Plenty to see and do and the kids had a lot of fun.

After 5 plus hours we still hadn't seen everything! There is a monorail that will take one all over the zoo so you can just hop on and off for $4 per person. There is a diverse array of animals on display in superb habitats. All the animals looked healthy and calm and most came right up to the front of their spaces to "view" the humans. There are numerous restrooms around the property and eating places as well. The whole area was clean and beautifully landscaped. Invest yourself there. You won't be disappointed!
