We visited Mexico Beach and stayed at the El Governor over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was a bit concerned because we were to late to get an Annex room after reading reviews. We ended up with 3rd floor King room.

The room was better than I expected. Room size was good, the balcony overlooking beach was great (every room has one). Room was very clean, bed was comfy, service at front desk and cleaning was helpful and pleasant.

But what I really liked (other than an unbeatable location directly on the beach) was a very good shower. Although fittings were a little older looking, everything worked well. In fact, it is hard to remember a better shower except at far more expensive places. Excellent water pressure and hot water available every time we tried it--even with a completely full motel.

The only downside was a small TV (19" maybe a bit larger). Decent channel selection. But we did not go to watch TV so it wasn't that big a deal. We went to enjoy the uncrowded beach, mild weather (70s during the day) and a relaxing weekend. And that is exactly what we got.

Parking can be crowded when motel is full, but we were able to find a spot.

All in all a very good beach motel, quiet and restful--just like Mexico Beach.

Room Tip: 2nd Floor is first of 4 floors of rooms. Only one outside elevator about midway along length of motel, so try to get a lower floor room or will be climbing stairs. Floor 1 is under building, open parking. Annex is floor level, but fills up fast.

It's an average hotel room, but right on the beach. Of course, the gulf view rooms have an excellent sunset view. The elevator is hot and maybe the slowest I've ever ridden. Need to reserve early if any kind of event or special occasion is going on.

GREAT place to stay when you visit Mexico Beach FL. All the rooms face the gulf and it's reasonably priced.

The location and the beach make up for anything the rooms lack. The room (in the annex) was nothing fancy but clean and had everything we needed - we were there for the beach not the room. We will stay there again.

The main attraction to this property is the fact that it is literally on the beautiful Mexico Beach. To their credit they have made it easy and comfortable for guests to sit out to watch the sunset and listen to the surf. If you want a night on the beach, then this is it!

Beyond the beach however you get a 60's style motel room that has been given a recent cosmetic upgrade. aka paint job! With the exception of the new A/C units and the flat screen TV's, the plumbing is old, the toilet was broken and the door locks are key type and don't hang properly, requiring a hip check and tug to open or close.

We stayed in the annex section of the property which is the newest portion. I'd hate to see what the older section looks like. For $140 per night, (no discounts) I would at least expect a room to have everything working properly. There is no breakfast provided and the Tiki bar on the property will not allow a room charge so if you show up in a bathing suit, have some cash on hand. I will give this property a pass the next time through.

Room Tip: The annex is the best of the worst.
