Having heard of this restaurant we tried to eat here on Saturday but were too late for lunch. Then Sunday they were. Closed for dinner and the same on Monday 17th September so we nearly gave up hope.

However we did manage to get a table later in the week and WOW. The food was superlative, the service excellent and the ambiance homely and welcoming.

A place not too miss

We went to this pub on recommendation. Winding country roads took us to this lovely village without any expectation. Lovely pub, very friendly people and the best food in Devon. All was delicious. An absolute must when you are in the area.

We booked a table for 2pm for roast lunch on a Sunday. We arrived and the pub was still pretty full but people were starting to disperse. Unfortunately they had run out of quite a few things on the menu, but I guess this just goes to show how popular it is here. We informed them previously that two of us were gluten free and were told that everything could be made gluten free as long as they knew in advance. I ended up choosing chicken as I was told the beef wasn’t rare due to only the end piece being left, and the pork had unfortunately run out. Our meals arrived and they were all delicious, the green vegetables were lovely, served crisp rather than over cooked. I have to say I was a little disappointed at the gluten free options - no offer of gluten free stuffing or Yorkshire’s, and the sausage that came with the chicken roast wasn’t gluten free either. Considering that the restaurant knew in advance, it would have been nice to have been offered this or some more roast vegetables other than the roast potatoes (although they were lovely) such as parsnips, roasted carrots or roasted beetroot. Saying this, we liked the look of the regular weekday menu and I expect we will be back to try it! Great friendly and professional service.

Stunning old pub in tiny village. Wonderful atmopshere. Eat in the bar or in the restaurant or in the beautiful garden.
Wonderful creative menu, interested take on traditional and new dishes. Generous portions, very clean on the pallette. Reasonably priced.

The food was delicious! Perfect! Good choice of different dishes. Only went for two courses, starters and mains. Both delicious. Parking next to the building and it can be a little tight. A little quiet in the place but the staff were friendly and excellent food so not sure why this was. Would highly recomend.
