If your idea of lodging for your get-away is something along the lines of staying over at cheeky Grandma-from-the-old-country's home with ill-assorted furniture, weird smells and that "broom-swept, but-not-so-sanitary" method of cleaning the place, then you'll probably enjoy staying here. If you like when Grandmama serves you a sweaty, warm hard boiled egg with her bargain-find, stale pastries for breakfast, have at it. As a bonus, you can witness her favoritism toward your distant cousin during the family reunion and see how she allows him to cannonball into her little backyard pool over and over, then feel belittled at how she wags her finger at you and scolds you for trying one splashless jump in from the side. She is excited, though, about keepin' with the times by the addition of a cheezy Tiki bar in the backyard where the grandkids like to play. That's the impression of this place. It seems to be run by an older couple/family that lets overseas relatives stay there, having free rein and mucking up the place. The rooms are not deeply cleaned (you'll love finding Grandmama's nail clippings by the bed and she's not so good at clearing out all the sand in the shower and from all over the couch). There, too, was an odd, foreign smell that was so strong we both developed headaches that first night. We had to leave the balcony door open despite the sticker on the glass stating not to do such a thing (uh oh, if Grandma only knew). I went to the desk to possibly switch rooms, but was told to just turn the AC on high to make the smell dissipate. The complaint about the nail clippings and sand all over was met with a puzzled stare. There was no concern over our discomfort 'cause, hey, things are tough in the old country. At first we found this place quaint, but had quickly had enough of their kind of "Old World" charm.

My sister, niece and I spent another wonderful 5 night stay at the Sea Lord Hotel & Suites! This is our second year staying here and we just love it! The ocean front room is beautiful and you are so close to the beach and pool! The owner is very nice and Tanya was so very friendly and helpful at the front desk. We went near the end of July and the weather was beautiful with lots of sunshine. We love coming to Florida in the summer. The rates for hotels are very reasonable this time of year and the ocean is warm and enjoyable to swim in. Lauderdale by the Sea is such a nice place to visit. We love it here and this hotel is a great place to stay!!

let me start with the positive, we got to the hotel early and understandably our room wasn't ready but they let us park in the lot so we could hit the beach and enjoy a full day. We came back around 3 o'clock and got our room 204, shower curtain was missing, no view at all (reservation said city view???), but we went on with our day because we were on vacation... after a great day at the beach, we walked to the downtown and had some more fun, location of the hotel is great.. We noticed at night the air conditioner didn't work as good as during the day and there was no way to get our room cooler, like it was remotely controlled.. Breakfast was another disappointment, boiled eggs, muffins and cofee? anyways maybe it was just the room but luckily it was only a one night stay at the Sea Lord....

I can say that the front desk staff was amazing and tried to make sure things got taken care of. HOUSEKEEPING is another story we had an ocean front King Suite when we arrived there were dirty dishes in the dishwasher, when we told the front desk about it the reply was "there is a dishwasher in your room?" First strike, it took two visits to the room to remove the dirty dishes and then they never replaced what they took so we had no forks or spoons in the room and now only one coffee cup and glass...strike two.Over the course of the next three days when housekeeping did the room they only made the bed and replenished towels never restocking the coffee or the plastic bathroom cups that made for strike three. We informed the front desk about not having coffee twice but it didn't seem to bother them at all. The final incident was when we got back to the room and there was a pack of cigarettes on the nightstand. Neither of us smoke. The hotel is older and it has an policy of locking the gate to the beach from the hotel leaving you no way to get to beach after 9pm without walking out on the street and to the public access in either direction. When the gate is open you must go through the restaurant from the pool area to get to the lobby to go to your room making it a very uncomfortable situation.
Again I say the front desk staff tried to be helpful and they were very nice but overall the hotel suite was not worth the cost we paid. We will not return again.

Room Tip: If you do not mind poor housekeeping services then you will be fine.

Our second time at The Sea Lord was even better than the first! We brought our 16 yo daughter this time and stayed in a one bedroom suite with an ocean view. The room was very accommodating. The staff work very hard daily and are always busy making their hotel the best that it can be. We ordered breakfast which was delicious. The continental breakfast is filling as well. The hotel is situated perfectly within the reefs, making snorkeling a fun adventure!! Thank you again.
