Owner description: Snorkel SOMBRERO LIGHTHOUSE & NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY - the third largest reef in the world - located six miles off-shore. This is the #1-rated reef in the Florida Keys for snorkeling!!!
Reviewed 6 April 2018 via mobile

Booked a trip for 10 of us (kids ages 7 and up and adults)- first mate Dusty and captain Angie did a great job getting us out to Sombrero Reef. Checked in 30 minutes before start of the trip. Brought a towel and a couple bottles of water with us, but had a full boat of 49 so they asked to bring as little personal items as possible. No shoes allowed either ) They do sell bottles water, beer and chips for a fee.

The water was perfect the day we went, calm and crystal clear! The reef was amazing and the fish fantastic.

The boat ride was 30 minuets out and back, leaving about 2 hours of snorkeling.

Would go again to this location with starfish for this price.

We had a great experience with Angie and Dusty. We went to the wring location and they even called to make sure we were still coming and told us exactly where to go. I was worried after reading some reviews, but with the liability these folks have you can't be upset if they are abrupt at times! We loved our experience and will definitely book with them again next year.

We had a great time snorkeling with Captain Angie and First Mate Dusty! Check in was a breeze, they sell out early so purchase your spots ASAP! Sombrero Reef was like swimming in an aquarium. Dusty was very friendly, making conversation with passengers. Angie was captain/tour guide with helpful and interesting facts about the area. Several people started to feel seasick, so Angie provided crackers and lollipops to help with the nausea. On the way back, Dusty entertained the crowd with jokes and knot tying techniques, (it’s really more interesting than it sounds!). Chances are that you might get seasick, so do yourself a favor, bring a light snack, ginger ale or Dramamine to help. This was worth every penny, I would highly recommend Starfish Snorkeling!

We did not have a good experience with Starfish Snorkeling. The woman checking us in was very rude, and told us if the boat was too heavy, she would 'kick us off because she did it earlier that day.' We paid the same amount as everyone else, so not sure why she said that. Then, our boat got stuck. The men had to get off and push, and not only was it inconvenient, it was a bit unsafe as the boat wasn't even turned off until someone said something to the operator. Then on the way back, we went under a bridge and scaffolding came down onto the boat from the bridge above. My nephew literally had pieces of dust and scaffolding on his arm. The staff acted like this was normal-I would never go back to this place. They didn't really seem to want our business anyway as the initial woman checking us in was so rude-so we will gladly go elsewhere next time we're on vacation.

I have been lucky to have been diving and snorkeling all over the world, so this review is not about the quality of the dive site ( which was good) but more so about the absolute professional crew manning this excursion. I feel bad not remembering the captains name but she was terrific and the first mate dusty was equally fantastic.....the boat was well equipped and they made sure everyone had fun.....would recommend hugely and i am a discerning customer.....my girlfriend who is from france and a little prone to sea-sickness loved it too...her first time snorkeling tropical
