“for those who say they never cancel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

well, The day we were scheduled to go, I checked the weather and high winds, heavy rain and rough seas, meant I was worried about going as my girlfriend gets seasick. But we headed over and they had canceled the trip for the day due to conditions. Full refund instantly. Didn't get to go on the trip but it was very responsible of the boat operators.

“Costs a small fortune now”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2012

We've rated this excursion highly in the past but now deem it NOT worth the arm and a leg that the operator is charging now. We've sailed Yankee freedom2 twice in the past and at the time, there was a competitor "Sunny Days". The National Park Service has since awarded sole rights to Yankee Freedom. What did Yankee Freedom do? Double the price! Thanks, it will now cost a family of 3 $440.00 for the boat ride and a baloney sandwich. Shame on you.

“Unique National Park, opportunity for snorkeling, overnight stay, fascinating history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2012

We very much enjoyed this excursion, though we'd had some trepidation about the trip. Dramamine taken beforehand is recommended if you're prone to seasickness. We had fairly calm seas and beautiful weather the day we went. Both breakfast and lunch were supplied. We had no trouble moving about the boat but if you are outside plan on windy conditions. If you want a guided tour of the fort they will ask you to sign up before you arrive at the island. Once there we were divided among three guides and taken to different areas of the fort. You have the option of touring the fort by yourself or snorkeling the entire time. They provide lunch which had to be eaten between 11:30AM-1PM. We opted to take the guided tour then eat, immediately following that, so we would have the rest of the time to snorkel. We had enough time to snorkel around the fort. We saw large schools of fish and barracuda on the side of the fort where the water was in shade. There were two changing areas for men and two for women on the island but no restrooms. The three on the boat seemed to be sufficient. We finished snorkeling about the same time as a couple who were staying on the island overnight. I would love to have been there that evening to see the skies above. They were wearing wet suits and were surprised we had gone around the fort without them. It was a bit nippy in spots, but we are fitness swimmers and it did not bother us. Boat left at 2:45 with all on board. Cash bar available on the way back. Those staying on the island have the option of coming back a day or more later. You do have to reserve spots for this. Camping and toilet facilities are very basic. Saw a seaplane land as we were docking. This is another option to get to Dry Tortugas though more costly.
