“Will never stay anywhere else”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

I have only stayed at this property twice, and I will never stay anywhere else, ever again, when I am in Key West.
I have stayed at most of the other new and super pricey hotels. Yes, they are nice, but you are paying more for the brand and not the experience (IMO).
I stayed at the Blue Marlin for vacation in July 09. It is an older place, but they have remodeled. The rooms are spacious and CLEAN!!! And the room is pretty sound proof. With the pool being located in the middle of the property, it can get unstandably noisy with all of the fun being had, but in your room, you cannot hear it.
In June 2011, we made the decision to get married in KW. And I made sure that we would be staying at the Blue Marlin for the days leading up to, and after the wedding. The first night we were in town, they were sold out and we had to stay elsewhere (not fun). But once we got to the Marlin, we (and especially me - the bride) was able to relax and enjoy everything.
The pool is a good size and is surrounded by palm trees. Parking is limited, so do not plan on bringing a big vehicle, or multiple cars. The staff is amazing and super friendly (Thank you Marcus for everything!!)
The property is just around the corner from the Southernmost Point, and Duval St. So pretty much everything is within walking distance.
I cannot say enough great things about the Blue Marlin. I cannot wait to come back in the fall!

Room Tip: Any room is a good room.

We stayed at the Blue Marlin motel for 4 nights (23-26 May) our room was on the ground floor and was a disabled room. The room was very large with 2 good sized double beds, microwave, TV, fridge and other extras. The bathroom was a long walk-in shower with ample space for a wheelchair user.
My only negative was that the Air Con unit in our room was very noisy and the guest in the room above walked laps of their room regularly with heavy feet that shock the ceiling! Breakfast was served in the reception between 7-9 and consisted of coffee, juice, toast and preserve and danish selection of which you took back to your room. The pool was large and clean however quite warm in temperature. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

We booked a fishing trip but cant remember name, and a dolphin watching and snorkle trip with Fury, both of these were excellent and good value. We booked 9am trips as they arent so busy. Also note that from the motel the location of the trips is a 30 min walk and not 15 as advised by Fury kiosk nearby.

Check out Blue Heaven, Rum Barrell, El Siboneys, Flaming Buoy for food, all excellant and either arrive early or book!

We chose this hotel based on the price mainly (Key West can be really expensive) but were pleasantly surprised by how good it was! The pool was large and clean, the rooms huge, very nice beds, large bathroom and tv, really there is nothing bad to say!

Stayed for three nights at an affordable rate for key west.
Wifi reception is excellent even by the pool.
Rooms were clean and comfortable (although no room safe in our room)
Would stay here again.
Free continental breakfast was not worth the visit to the front desk

In hindsight, we should have done some ipad googling and prebooked a room before arriving on spec at Key West on a friday, just beofre a weekend, as many of the hotels were already boked up. We found the Marlin and enquired and was told they had rooms but "it was small". The guy at the desk wasn't kidding. If you turned the light out at the door, you could be in bed before it went dark! The room was at the end of the carpark and wasnt much bigger than the single queen sized bed inside. One bedside table and no wardrobe (although a small hanging rail sufficed and a three drawer unit was in the room on which the tv sat). There was a fridge and microwave and an ensuite, which was like the proverbial Black Hole of Calcutta. Dark and wet. Lucky that for the thre days we stayed in the Keys, the weather was  alright. If we'd had to stay in the room for any length of time during the day, we'd have broken out a harmonica and started singing songs of captivity! The one time it rained overnight, we woke to a rather large puddle which we had to wade through to escape.
On the plus side though, a light coffee and danish style breakfast was supplied every day and the location, one block off Duvall street and close the 'southern most' everythings was good. Can recommend the Southernmost Cafe on the beach for a nice meal, and the walk upto the top of Duvall Street wasn't too taxing.
