We came as a group of 10 and had reservations for two cottages. We had stayed there years before and there was a huge improvement. Granted a few units could be removed, but it is truely a fun place, especially for kids. We loved the tiki huts and spent lots of time there. The use of kayaks was also great. The pier was a fun place to spend time with the kids fishing. Sunset Cove is truely a keyzee place to stay. It was very clean. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. If you are looking for a five star resort this isn't it. However, if you are looking for a kicked back relaxing experience go to the Sunset Cove Beach Resort.

We stayed at Sunset cove with a smaller group. Our 'cottage' was geared to sleep 8 people - we had 5 and it was still too small. As it turns all of those 8 people would have to be under 5 feet tall, having to duck under the ceiling or turn sideways to get about. The 'cottage' was a ramshackle of a lean to against an old trailer. One of the beds was essentially in the bathroom and everytime the aircon went on it woke up two people. So it is what it is and we got what we paid for - not much. Next time will pony up for another spot.

Room Tip: Avoid the 8 people unit.

Sunset Cove resort is dedfinitely not a resort. Its a motel. The outside area of this motel is very cute. There are different areas you can sit and relax at. The water front area is very nice. The free use of their canoes/kayak is a nice touch. When the place is not that crowded (it was very crowded when we were there), it is very nice to sit out by the water & relax. We snorkeled around the area which was nice (saw different fish, crabs, barracuda, starfish, horseshoe crab...). As for the room we stayed in, that wasn't so nice. We stayed in the Sand dollar room. The rate was $130/night + tax. For this rate, the room should have been much better. They do show the rooms are their website, so you can get a good idea of what your room will look like. I knew the room would be very small, and that was ok with me, as we were only there for one night, but what I didn't like was the quality of the room. It is in dire need of remodeling/updating. When I opened the bathroom cabinet, shavings of old wood fell eveywhere. Around the window sills, there were spider webs and it looked like its been quite a while since the place was cleaned in detail. The linens were clean though. Cleanliness of a room is a very important thing to me, and this place definitely needs to clean the rooms much better. There are larger rooms which may have been nicer, but I'm pretty sure they were also in dire need of being updated. I'm in no way a snob, but I believe if I'm paying $130/night, the place I'm staying should atleast be clean! The lady at the front desk was very nice. The breakfast was a joke. I definitely recommend eating breakfast elsewhere. Overall, this place is ok for maybe a night or two.

The first couple days we stayed there, they had a teen mission of approx. 80 teens that totally took over the entire complex. They gave us no warning or anything else. After they got our money, that's all they cared about.

Then, even though we stayed in their "nicest" beach front room, we didn't have hot water for two days, smelled of mold, didn't have any dressers or drawers, didn't have counter space in kitchen, does not have futon as advertised (rather very uncomfortable pull-out couch that stunk), and they do not provide any of the basics guest amenities like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc . It was all they could to do to even provide toilet paper. This was more like primitive cabin.

Location was perfect and our room was clean with a great view. During our 4 night stay, we had 1 hot shower and had to heat water on the stove to clean dishes. We brought food to grill during our stay, but our charcoal grill was removed after the 1st day due to "a hole in the bottom" and was not replaced. We went out and purchased an inexpensive grill ourselves. The last night of our stay, we came back after a day of boating to find 70 teenagers on the dock who were staying at the resort as part of their church group's summer camp. If the resort was going to be taken over by a group, the other guests should have been informed of this. Regarding the air condition, I agreewith most of the other ratings I read, it was very noisy and needs to be replaced.

Small things like hot water, newer air conditioners, charcoal grills and guest customer service are easy fixes, yet can ruin your stay.
