“Take Resort out of your name”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2012

Hotel feels old, dirty and a bit run down. Hate that everything here is an upsell considering the premium they charge for rooms. Self parking add $15 to your bill, come on parking not exactly an issue in the Keys. Bring a cooler, because no refrigerator in the room. If you are looking for a "keys" feeling this is not it, if you want a modern feeling hotel this is not it, there are far nicer hotels in Key Largo. The pool may have been state of the art in 1970, but now its just tired. Hotel in need of major renovation. Dumbest practice ever seen, turning off elevator from 10pm to 8am, plain old stupid.

Ok firstly this hotel / property was built in the 60/70s when the concrete monolithic design was trendy, these days it looks pretty daunting and unsafe. But dont let that put you off as its all about location, the location is great, right on its own beach and with an even nicer forest before the beach. Arrived too late to enjoy beach bars etc, but enjoyed a few good drinks in the restaurant on the third floor. The rooms are adequate but dated when compared to other properties.

Its a good hotel but not a great one, needs improving and updating.

Room Tip: Get sea / oceanview room.

After reading negative reviews of this hotel, my husband and I were a bit apprehensive of what to expect. We needn't have been. We booked through Virgin so had free carparking, and didn't pay for a room upgrade, but still received a room on the 3rd floor which was a corner room so the balcony went all the way round the room as well. We looked over the car park and at trees but this didn't bother us. The room was clean and had everything we needed with a separate sitting room. We didn't use the dining room as ate out every night and for breakfast, so unable to comment on the food. The receptionist didn't seem to know much about maps etc but asked us to ask in the shop at the side, the staff in there were very helpful giving us a map and a list of restaurants to eat in.

The beach was clean and the sea warm and there were plently of sunbeds even though when we arrived it was Memorial weekend (we didn't realise when we booked it and it took forever to get there on the US1). You can even put the sunbeds in the ocean to lie on. There are also free beach towels (though not very big, you can take a few though) and the nature walk has plently of wild creatures in it.

For a really nice meal in a good spot, try the Manadalay Tiki bar and Grill close to the hotel and on the Ocean side. Also the bird hospital is a good visit.

Hotel was as billed. Quiet beachfront hotel that's a short ride from Miami. Rooms were good sized and the ocean views and sunsets were fantastic. We found it a very romantic setting. Ordered the breakfast with the room - not sure I would do again since the buffet never changed from day to day and the food was bland.

Was disappointed the pre-ordered fruit and cheese platter was not in the room however when the hotel front desk was called they provided a satisfactory solution.

The hotel is not within walking distance of anything so if you are looking for seclusion, which I was, this is the hotel to visit.

During reservation had asked for a late checkout. I understand this is not guaranteed and is dependent upon the hotel's capacity. During our stay the hotel was at most half full however we were only allowed a one hour extension. With the large number of open rooms and my status in their rewards program I would have assumed at least a two hour extension as I've received at other Hilton properties.

There also appeared to be a disconnect with housekeeping. On our first full day they called to ask if we were leaving since they had us scheduled for check-out. Obviously this wasn't the case but the confusion led to our room not being serviced at all. On check out day, the housekeeping staff came by at 10am trying to service the room -we let them know about the late check-out to 1pm. Instead of waiting until 1 or 2 to come back they came at 12. We again informed them of the late check-out. As you can guess we had two additional visits before we left. It began to feel like we were being pushed out - not the best way to end a truly relaxing vacation.

If you are short on time do not rely on this establishment to have your room ready anywhere near their already late check-in time of 4pm. How about 5:30? Comps do not make up for time when you are on a short weekend trip to the keys. The room was ok but sofa had stains. Bathroom was barely average, not of 'resort' quality at all. Water view was just barely above the tree tops. Beaches very small. Pool had a nice water feature that drowned out most of the highway noise. Liga (staff) and the bartender (didn't get her name) were nice/friendly. Just think for $200 a night the amenities and room felt cheap.

Room Tip: Breakfast buffet (which was comped due to late room) was excellent.
