This is always a special place to visit, and well worth the price of admission. Even if you’re just curious about butterflies, don’t miss it. Excellent for children, and so fascinating to them as well. The labs, and collections of all types are very interesting too. The rest of the museum is available at no charge, and this is the only part that requires an admission fee.

Several different types of (mostly) colorful butterflies are free to fly around and feed on flowers or fruit left out for them. If you smell good (sweet, no cigarette smoke), they might land on you, too. Fun for all ages, except maybe jaded teenagers.

We went in December which is not the ideal time of year to see butterflies. I would suggest a visit in spring or summer to get the best show.

Hello sanray1935,
Thanks for your comments. We're having an unusually cold winter this year. But normally anytime the temperature is at least 65 degrees and sunny, there will be butterfly activity, regardless of the time of year. We currently have the plants covered to protect them from the freezing temperatures, and are offering behind-the-scenes tours through Jan. 6. But we hope you'll come back and visit when the weather warms up to see the butterflies in action.
Kind regards,
Paul Ramey

The butterfly rain forest is absolutely beautiful. It transports you to a dreamland. It is serene. Children will love it. Butterflies land on your arms
