Owners had everything set up for a smooth check-in experience with Rental Company. We got there after hours and they had an after hours box for check in. With traffic this time of year, be sure to give yourself more time. We went during the height of spring break. Getting on and off Island can take awhile.
We loved the beach house. It was comfortable and decked out with all the housewares we needed. Beach, bath, and kitchen towels were all supplied. Sheets, blankets, and extra pillows were nice. Kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes, quality silverware, and a good knife set. Toaster, blender, mixer, coffee pot, and microwave. Ice maker in freezer. House is what you would expect for the typical beach house. It was exactly what we expected so we was not disappointed. It is very basic. If you are looking for huge bathrooms with double vanities and granite in bath and Kitchen...this place isn't it. If you are looking for a comfortable home for your next beach stay...this is it. Looking off the balcony you can get some peaks of the gulf through the trees. You feel like you are in a tropical paradise with all the greenery and palm trees. The washer and dryer downstairs is a God send. Two bikes are supplied along with some beach toys, beach chairs, two regular size fishing rods, tackle box and other items. Weber charcoal grill came in handy one night for us. Lots of games, puzzles and books supplied in the house too. We would step out of the house, walk past the house next door and cross the street to the beach access. Very easy and quick. Clean up was a breeze with the outside shower and water hose. Cable and internet supplied too, along with DVD players. Beds slept well and the kids slept on the Futon in the office area and loved it.
The beach is beautiful with white sand. We found lots of shells....just remember if you find anything alive in them to throw them back or you could get hit with a fine of $500. Even during spring break the beach was never over crowded and we always had lots of room between us and anyone else. You are in a beach house area instead of condo & hotels so the crowds are not big. The gulf is perfect for small children. Small waves and the water was pretty clear most days, other days it may be a bit murky. There were no sudden drop offs. You have to walk out a long way to just be waist deep. Sunsets are out of this world here....WOW!!!! Family picture opportunities were excellent.
We enjoyed eating out while a couple of our golfers played at 3 different golf courses loving it. Miniature golf at night for the kids is always fun too. We took in the outlet mall with a lot of high quality stores and deals for you shoppers. We rented a boat one day and took it through the bay and had a great time watching all the dolphins. We then headed to Sanibel Island and continued north to North Captiva Island. No bridges go there and the shelling was good. One person stayed with the boat and anchored off shore a ways to keep the propeller safe, just in case you decide to do this (cost for full day over $400). You can take in lots of things to do. But, we only had one week. If you can come for more than one week that would be even better. They have your typical fun Florida Flea Markets right off the Island too. But, we just didn't have enough time to do it all.
House was economical and fit all of our needs perfect. Quality family time was our goal, not top of the line fixtures such as granite. I gave the place 4 stars. The only thing that would have made it 5 stars is if it was located right on the beach.
