We were looking for a beach front location for just a couple of nights, and boy does the Edison House have the perfect location!
The beach is gorgeous, and the hotel maintains the sand in front so it is perfect.
We were on a small unit on the 3rd floor. To sit out on your deck and watch the sunset, really is paradise. Since the room has a full sized fridge and kitchen, you save on food and wine/cocktails to go with that view.
The owners could not be more friendly or accomodating.
Just some issues you should be aware of in the small units at least. The counter space in the bathroom is very small, the washer/dryer is in the bath, and we used that for extra counter space.
Our unit had a double bed and single.
I could not sleep on the double the mattress was so bad, but the single mattress was obviously newer and I could sleep there with no pain. Anyone with back issues should be aware.
Florida is still part of the "South" where tobacco, not cotton is king. So unlike most areas up North, smoking is still allowed in just about every restaurant and tavern. Edison House is at least banning smoking in the units which is a start. Yes, they allow it on the balconies. I guess if you want a truly smoke free experience, you will have to pay for it at a higher end chain, and if it is that important to you that is what you should do. Quite honestly you probably are not going to enjoy much of Ft. Myers if you have serious trouble with cigarette smoke, the area attracts smokers.
It was so much fun to be able to walk to the "Times Square" area of Ft. Myers beach and have a drink, a meal or rent some beach chairs and an umbrella.
Would surely stay at the Edison House again.

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the gulf. Just gorgeous all the way around!!

We almost gave up on Ft. Myers, and then we found the Edison Beach House: impeccable, right on the beach with soothing waves, large beautifully decorated rooms with full kitchen and separate bedroom, walking distance to fun shops and restaurants. Not at all overpriced. Wow!

We booked the Edison Beach House when another friend had let us know she and her kids were going to be there for a week in April. Another couple ended up joining us for a couple of days, as well. We have traveled extensively throughout the world, and we just had a great vacation both because of the company and the accomodations. The EBB is not fancy, but it met all our needs for a several days right on the beach. We had Suite E on the 3rd Floor. I was a little concerned that there might be "pool noise," as it overlooks the pool, but it really was not an issue. And the view on that side is great, especially the full on ocean view and then the sunsets. The 4th Floor would have been nice, but the elevator is very slow, so we ended up using the stairs most of the time (good workout), and the 3rd Floor worked out just fine. The place is spotless and there is daily maid service. The kitchen is FULLY stocked with just about anything you could imagine needing for preparing and serving food, so be sure to check-in first before heading to the Publix or the Super Target. Otherwise, you may buy stuff that is already provided. One of our party found the fresh fish market nearby and got some incredible grouper and shrimp. Not that we intended it to be this way, but we ended up just eating in each other's rooms for almost every meal, with the exception of maybe one lunch (lots of places within walking distance) and one dinner. It made for great visiting and the kids just hung out on the beach. I must say, having a washer/dryer is a plus. The beach is great (lots of activities within walking distance -- SeaDoos, parasailing, banana boats). The sand is like powdered sugar and is "groomed" regularly. Everyone on staff was lovely, especially Lisa from Louisville! The EBB is, in my opinion, perfect for reunions of family and friends. You each have your own area, but can get together and share meals and good times because you are so close to each other. We will be back!

Room Tip: The rooms on the north side overlook the pool, but the noise was not troublesome and the views on that side are particularly great (especially Suite E; see below).

Entire staff was very courteous and helpful with information, and also very responsive to requests and needs. Facility was clean, quiet, and well maintained. Location is perfect, a short walk to the Pier and Time Square. Free parking. Most rooms have great views of ocean and beach, with private balconies.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views. However, balconies/rooms on the south side of complex are shielded from hot afternoon sun and have nice ocean breeze.

I traveled recently with my husband, daughter and one of her good friends. We stayed for one week. We enjoyed our stay very much. We were warmly greeted and given a reusable bag, a small stuffed dolphin and soap. The elevator was consistently slow and even though we were on the 5th and top floor we took the stairs often. The rooms were freshly cleaned and the kitchen was well supplied. A maid came by every day to make beds and "freshen" up the room.

One morning at 3:30 AM the fire alarm went off. Everyone evacuated the building and stood outside in the cold, early morning air while 3 fire trucks and an ambulance showed up. Turns out there was no fire just some mechanical issue in the elevator operating room. However, the wait was caused because the owner of the house had not put the correct new keys in a box for the firefighters. Had the keys been there the firefighters would have been able to detect the problem earlier and we would have been able to go back to bed much sooner.

The pool was small but well heated and maintained. There was a closet that was supposedly filled with beach chairs and other beach items but we never were able to find any. There are some beach chairs by the pool and some on concrete just before the beach. However these cannot be moved. The house is right on the beach. The beach was calmer were the house was located, on the other side of the pier. The house is in perfect walking distance from almost everything needed. The 7-11 right across the street was handy and not that far down was a Publix. The next time we go to Fort Myers Beach we will stay here again!
