The charm of the place is that the decor is dated and looks like a 50's/60's layout motel. The point is that it is spread out with lots of space. The rooms are accessed from outside, so there is fresh air when you want it, no tower block corridors here, and you are not overrun with people. The rooms are huge. The efficiencies would appear smaller because the have a kitchen in them! The beds are new and extremely comfortable. The staff work hard at keeping it all clean and tidy. The air conditioning works well. Its on the beach with palm tree shade, perfect location. Very safe for children. The 50+ can keep away from children because of the space, and the beach. The Tiki bar is right on the beach and perfect for drinks in the heat. There are restaurants and stores nearby so you are not stuck with on site catering if you don't want it. The white sand beach is huge and a walk down to the sea. We had 3 or 4 late afternoons a week live entertainment next to the Tiki bar which was most enjoyable after a day on the beach, finishing 7ish. The highlight by the bar ot on the beach was watching the sun go down, looking for that elusive 'green flash'. The shore line is clean and shallow for easy swimming. We had a couple of niggles with the Cafe, one with quality the other with delivery. Without this we would have rated the Outrigger 5*.

Room Tip: The west and east inward view rooms are best (big), with 2 queen beds and seperate bathroom. Good v...

We spent a week at the Outrigger and found it to be nice but dated. Shower area had a bit of mould which was not appealing. The rooms are a bit on the small side however the location of this hotel is great. We were right on the beach, although a good walk to get to the shoreline. We only rented a car for two days as the trolley service took care of the transportion issues. The staff are courteous and helpful. The front desk are has a computer area that you can reserve for a 30 minute session per day. The Deckside Cafe offers mostly fast food items at a reasonable price. We loved the chicken wings, and their Pizza was pretty good also. They offer cabana's to rent on the beach. Rental rates are $15.00 plus tax per day for two attached lounge chairs and a canape. If you rent after 1:00 p.m. the rate is reduced to $10.00. They collect the cushions at 5:00 p.m. dalily from the beach area. The water is not clear in the area of Fort Myers Beach because a river flows into the ocean a few miles down from the beach, so even though you are in salt water it resembles a lake. You can not snorkel here as you can not see though the water. The staff at the front desk are wonderful and offered us a late check out to accomodate for our flight back home.

Room Tip: Some pools side rooms would give you a partial ocean view. Take a room on the second floor. Our room...

I thought i had written this review before but don't see it posted on Tripadvisor, so i will do it again.

The family stayed here one night at the end of March, starting our week-long spring break trip. The hotel was clean and the staff was nice. Decor was dated, circa 1980 ish, although hard to tell with the turquoise color and the mural on the one wall. An old 19" tube tv and bed coverings were really the only setbacks. My kids got a kick out of how the motel room doors opened out instead of in which was only a problem when we were trying to move our luggage back and forth between maid carts. The restaurant was ok, we had the buffet. Decor was dated tropical Florida kitchy.

Keep in mind the motel has 2 buildings a newer one (which I'm sure the pictures are taken from) and a much older building which we stayed in. The pool area and decking was nice, and they do have the largest area of beachfront i have seen.

We payed $180.00 for a double at the height of spring break. It is what it is.

We love being in a Time Warp! With vacation time and money in such short supply, we believe that old-fashioned beach vacations are vital in keeping families strong. We choose to focus on things like sandcastles on the beach, shell crafts and ice-cream cones. Of course, watching television on a flat panel TV is important as well, which is why all of our rooms were upgraded the second week of April. In fact, over the past 12 months, we have updated each of our rooms and while some might say 80's, we prefer to say - calm beach waters and vibrant tropical flowers color our walls. We just hope that this family has some wonderful memories of their old-fashioned beach vacation!

If you are looking for a five star resort, this is not your place . HOWEVER, the location is perfect, central on Estero blvd with restaurants and grocery store close by. There is a restaurant on the premises that we ate in every day and was nice. Reasonable pricing and good service.
The beach is a bit of a distance if you have walking issues. nice tiki bar and music
The rooms are dated but decent. If you are like us, we were only there to sleep. Adequate, nothing fancy
Front desk very nice. Overall very good experience. Would stay there again
Can't get enough of those beautiful sunsets!

Visited short notice with my parents by boat and made a short notice reservation during spring break. I expected an outdated disappointment but was totally wrong. This place is a throw back in time, but in the best way. This is what beach vacations should be! I loved our large room, it was clean and spacious. tV worked well, free wireless Internet. Nice pool and right on the beach. Great little cafe, friendly service. I would go back again and again.
