Yes, it was clean and had hot water with good pressure. But an indicator of how they feel about guests is that the best parking spot is reserved for the manager. Checking in and out took entirely too long. The clerk (manager?) probably repeated my room number 6 times as he SAT there figuring my final bill. Something that looked like a 4th of July punk (joss stick?) was burning in a stand right on the counter of the no-smoking "lobby" and was annoying.
Beds were lumpy, some areas had bad smells. Metal door jambs had rust showing and needed painting. Our room was tiny. The breakfast wasn't worth the time. There are signs all over, like: Don't fill ice chests. Ice is for room only. Don't take food back to your room. Food is to be eaten in dining area only.
If all you need is a place to shower and sleep after spending the day in the Everglades, this place is probably sufficient. But next time, we'll spend a few more bucks and stay elsewhere.

This place is a waste of money. The rooms and hallways reek of cigarettes, the breakfast is dismal and the service is terrible. It was very crummy overall. Housekeeping woke us up even though we had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. I guess they can't read. At "breakfast" (generous name for watered-down orange juice and off-brand cereal) the waffle maker was broken and you had to track down an employee to get milk, or anything else, refilled. Take your money elsewhere ... this place is a rip-off.

We visited the area in December, which accounts for the incredibly high prices on all hotels. So we chose this hotel because the price was relatively affordable and the reviews were somewhat positive. Ooops. It was more expensive than the Hampton Inn in Ft Myers (which was a great hotel) and was slightly better than sleeping in our car. Though not much. When we checked in, there was a dirty washcloth on the floor of the bathroom, and the sink had hairs in it. The beds were made of stone, and the bedspread was paper thin. The hotel is RIGHT next to a freeway, and the traffic noise was annoying. Our room was on the second floor, but there is no elevator. The breakfast room is tiny, and was packed. Which is strange, since the food was terrible. Never again will we stay here. Pay $20 more and get a MUCH better hotel.

My wife and I have been traveling to the keys for years. This is my first stay at the Econo Lodge in Florida City. I must say that this was by far the cleanest property I have been to. Even in better shape than a marriot I stayed at in Key Largo.
The owners were nice enough, and the staff was friendly. I also liked the location, about 20 miles to key largo, and since they widened the road, you get there a lot sooner. There is a WALMART, and nice restaurabts in the area.
I would definately recommend the hotel if your traveling south of Miami.
