“Tons of Character, A bit Rustic, Beautiful, Wonderful Time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2012

This Inn is centrally located in the old town, and is comfortable and friendly! Not your generic cookie-cutter hotel. Rooms are great if you like character and aren't hung up on lots of closet or dresser space. The common rooms and exteriors were phenomenal to hang out with family and bond. (We celebrated a 90th birthday party, then spent a few days afterwards just enjoying each other and the hotel.) The Inn has front and back covered porches with nice views and the back area is wonderful to hang out in by the fountain and drink wine, socialize or just read a book.

Lots of mermaids, great bartenders and other staff. Fun evening entertainment nearby, must take the shuttle tour (It's WORTH the $20 donation). Loved poking into shops on the main street, just a block away, and I found the prices reasonable.

Always prefer to stay somewhere local as opposed to a chain and particularly like the B&B's that are affordable. Spent 2 nights here in March 2012. Great location and the building is full of history and just amazing to see. Mermaid bar is worth a stop alone and they have a great courtyard where they often have music. We stayed in Room #11. Is is a very small room but they did tell us that ahead of time and it was not an issue. The room was very nice with 2 single beds, television, small wardrobe, reading lamps over each bed, and ceiling fan. The bathroom was surprisingly nice for a building this old. Appears that it was just remodeled with a very spacious shower. The room was just slightly warm but the fan helped and there is a thermostat out in the hall that I am not sure if you should access or not. But it was not a problem. Nice corner 2nd floor room with view into the courtyard. Pretty significant difference in price if we had upgraded to a larger room with a single bigger room so we chose this one and was not disappointed. Breakfast was included every morning from 8:00-9:00 and was very good (quiche, french toast, potatoes that were great, bacon, and grits one morning. Also includes juice, water, and coffee. The location is also a huge plus. On 3rd street just off Center street where the action is and has exist on to 3rd and 4th streets. Nice, free parking lot out back. There was a place next door that live music on their porch that sounded very nice and they stopped at 11:00 sharp each night (weekends). Really liked this place with the charm, updated interior, great breakfast, very nice outdoor areas, and mentioned the location is perfect. $222 for 2 nights for 2 people including breakfast, location, and very inviting outdoor areas made this a very good deal. Chose to stay in this historic part of the island versus the beach area as this is where the food and entertainment are best. Great decision and hope to never stay anywhere else when we return. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We chose room #11 (2 singles based entirely on the much cheaper price and though odd for a couple, b...

quick overnight trip. Stayed in room 6 (Queen Deluxe). Authentic old (antique) blended w new amenities. V comfy bed w extra blankets for excellently chilled room. Glad we paid a little more for double soaker tub. Rainy weekend but porches of the Inn and surrounding eating establishments proved their worth. Band next door (Saturday night) was expected and wasn't bothersome. Breakfast was buffet style and hot: banana pancakes, bacon, egg/sausage casserole, yogurt, donuts, no complaints. If you like 1790 antiques complete w gas lighted lanterns, claw footed tubs with fresh flowers floating, hosts wearing period costume this is not for you. If you like an updated Hampton Inn 2012 shower and bath and pillow top beds and 600 cable channels this is not for you. If you like a hotel with some history, close to downtown, decorated w historic but functional charm and across or next to decent bars and restaurants, this is where you hang your hat. We liked. We will recommend it to our friends.

Room Tip: We liked room 6, one of the queen room deluxe(s). Lower level, seems to be part of the old hotel. w...

and another for friends. great location. clean and spacious. patios and porches front and back, up and down. quaint little town with every kind of food you could ask for. I've had better breakfast, but it was not bad---the french toast was great tho.

If you are interested in seeing Fernandina Beach, which I recommend, you should consider staying at the Florida House Inn. It is right in the middle of the historic district with a very easy walk to lots of restaurants, bars and shops. The rooms are quaint and clean albeit somewhat small and the staff is very attentive and helpful. Breakfast is very good. As with many B&B's there is some noise from the outside but we had no problem in getting to sleep. The Inn has its own parking which is helpful. We spent the night on our way to Cumberland Island the next day but when we return we will spend an extra day to see all of the local Fernandina Beach sights.

Room Tip: We were in room 1 which is over the street. Room 2 in the back would be quieter.
