Operating out of a temporary trailer because of storm damage to the visitor's center structure, you'll still do well to stop here. The rangers staffing the site afford you a wealth of knowledge in regard to National Park attractions in the area. Having limited time for our visit their information was invaluable to us getting the most out of our visit. Though the temporary visitor center imposes limitations, the best attraction has not been affected. I'm referencing the boat tour out to the 10,000 Islands area and to the edge of The Gulf. An extremely knowledgeable ranger narrated our tour and detailed both flora and fauna for us. We saw various birds as well as dolphins, some of whom played in the wake of the boat and also an unexpected sighting of a manatee, a special treat. Just getting out on the water and viewing the islands up close as well as looking back towards shore gave us a new perspective of the area. I would highly recommend considering this tour as the child, teen and we adults all enjoyed the experience.
