Everglades National Park Boat Tours

Florida got hit pretty bad but there is a temporary site where you can get your passport stamped and they also have extra stamps for your passport. The boat tour there was amazing we had dolphins swimming in the waves of the boats side and we spotted 2 manatee which the ranger said we were lucky because it’s rare (she had not seen one till today)they even snorted the us is was great. Lots of birds. The boat trip was well worth it my best visit of all. Not sure if I can post videos till I get home but if I can I’ll post the dolphins.

The tours from Flamingo are supposed to be better than the ones from the Gulf Coast, but the boats from Flamingo are still closed because of Hurricane Irma. The Gulf Coast trip is a good alternative. We did not see manatees, but we did have some great bird sightings.

We had done an airboat tour in the swamp a few years ago and wanted to see something different, so our friends recommended the 10,000 Island Tour. Staff were friendly and it was a nice set up in their temporary quarters. The
'Sunset Cruise' isn't at sunset though after Daylight Savings Time though, so plan accordingly! The boat was clean, comfortable on a 70 degree day and roomy. The captain was knowledgeable and took the time to get you close to wildlife like the Osprey nest and the mother dolphin and her calf. I would have liked to get a bit closer to the mangroves and hear more about the ecosystem there. Our friends said they did do that the last time they went out - so it may be captain-dependent or weather dependent? They do post that they would appreciate a 15% tip as that is how the captain makes his salary.

We greatly enjoyed the Ten Thousand Island tour with Captain Mike and First Mate Valerie. Pontoon boat was comfortable and had ample seating, with a canopy for shade. Captain Mike's commentary was interesting and informative. The islands are mangrove hillocks; several are quite large. Lots of birds, cormorants, osprey, eagles, ibis, great blue heron, seagulls, and terns. We also saw several dolphins up close, and a few even swam in the boat's wake for quite a distance. We didn't see manatees this year, probably because it was choppy and cold. Last year were saw several. Tour is 1.5 hours and definitely worth the price ( including tax, $37 each). We did the same your in 2017, when we had sun. This year, our group of 5 had the boat to ourselves as it was a bit rainy. Valerie was even able to produce a few windbreakers as it is quite chilly out on the water.

Saw a lot of dolphins! They swam behind our boat for almost 10 minutes, jumping and playing! The kids thought it was awesome!
