Great time at the cootage, very quiet and clean. Would have liked to see the bear. The only down side was that the beds were small and hard.

Winchester Cottage has everything you need in a vacation rental. Comfortably appointed, well-equipped and thoughtfully arranged, it is a perfect home away from home (and it accommodates dogs!). Unable to work the DVD player (no sound) but that is probably because of this reviewer's technical incompetence...the TV has Netflix and there is wifi so there no need to feel cut-off from the world. If you want to curl up with a book and fail to bring your own, the owners have a good selection to choose from. If you are a light sleeper it might be an idea to avoid the front bedroom (the largest of the three) as the local traffic does tend to barrel down Tallahassee St and this might disturb.

By way of a minor criticism, it would have been useful to have one closet/wardrobe available for hanging clothes...this would be more of an issue if you were planning on a longer stay than a weekend.

We appreciate thoughtful reviews, and this is one. Thanks.

The front bedroom is closest to the street, and that must be considered. Bear in mind that a town of 800 or so can only have a fairly small amount of traffic-- under the worst conditions.

There may be a wire loose to the DVD, we will check on that. And there is a sizeable closet in the dining room (we know, we know) that not everybody finds!

House on inside is very nice. However, the outside looks run down. Houses near house also look run down and abandoned! The picture displayed must be from 20 years ago when house looked nice. Owners should post up to date picture of neighborhood also before people rent this place.

It seems that Winchester Cottage was not what the young couple with 2 small children thought it was. This, after years of photos and information on our website, and many favorable TripAdvisor reviews.

Little ones need constant entertainment, not normally found in a 1933 cottage in an "old" neighborhood. Strolling our shops, harbor, beach, and forests--maybe not fun for the pre-schoolers. Peace and quiet? Maybe also not fun. The note left by the guests said that there was nothing to do and they were going to Panama City. Good move.

Good, Good, Good--almost everything about this guest stay was good.

When guests are inquisitive and appreciative, it makes this "job" of ours much more enjoyable. They treated the Cottage as if it was their home, and left it in great condition.

We hope to see these guests again, and maybe even with a traveling companion--?

Skip says he gets this a lot. The cottage is more than just charming, it is enchanting. We spent six wonderful days there with our two dogs, and we all simply loved it. Kathy's interior decorating is eclectic, comfortable, stimulating and calming, all at the same time. I even loved the plates. A special surprise was the well-seasoned cast-iron skillet. The air-conditioning system may seem like a small point, but the floor vents make a huge difference in comfort. Small touches like the seashell handle on the door to the porch - perfect for using an elbow to push it open when your hands are full - add to the charm.

Carrabelle is charming, with that relaxing slower pace of a town that doesn't even have a stoplight. The drive over to Apilachicola is short and scenic, and Apilachicola has its own charms, with more than just the usual touristy souvenir shops. St. George's Island is a treasure; the beach in the state park is gorgeous, the water is wonderful, and five people would be a crowd. Forget Destin, or anything between Pensacola and Panama City, where you trip over people on the beach - head a little further east. You WILL remember The Forgotten Coast.

Liked best: The overall charm, layout, wood floors and interior decorating. The air conditioning system was great.
Liked least: One bathroom with a so-so tub/shower.

Winchester Cottage has been a busy place since its renovation was essentially completed a couple of years ago. It's funny--we never bought an official guest book, instead most of our guests have stuck notes to the refrigerator! Dozens.

But Bob's note here is greatly appreciated, and hopefully will be seen far and wide! Many thanks.
