Just to survive China Cafe has to offer decent fare, in large portions, at a decent price. That's exactly what it does. Don't expect gourmet Chinese, and you won't be disappointed. You won't go home hungry, and you'll take lots of leftovers home with you.

The best thing that I can say about China Café is that it’s not much worse than the other Chinese restaurants and take-out joints in the area. Unfortunately, the other Chinese restaurants on the west side of Boca are quite mediocre… which makes China Café sub-mediocre. I would gladly forgive the almost two hour wait for delivery if the food had been great and would have been been happy if it were good. It was pretty bad. The vegetables were way overcooked and mushy, as if they had been sitting around for two hours after being cooked, or maybe they were soft and wilted to begin with. Some were from a can. The five or six small shrimp in the shrimp dish were slightly cooler than room temperature. They might not have been fully cooked, but I ate them anyway in the hopes that they were from a package of cooked frozen shrimp and just heated enough to thaw, which might make them safe. I’ve taken that shortcut myself of throwing frozen cooked shrimp in a wok and the results are never that good, but at least I bother to heat them until they’re hot. The quality of the beef was fair – definitely not a good flank steak, but not too foul. Chinese food is my favorite cuisine next to Thai and is not difficult to make. All you need is a hot wok (restaurants have an advantage here with their commercial high btu stoves) and a few choice ingredients, such as fresh ginger, garlic, and good quality soy sauces, bean sauces, black vinegar, and shaoxing rice wine. There were no signs of these ingredients. The sauces at China Café are some mysterious bland concoction, probably pre-mixed from a huge, bucket size can. They make lean cuisine look like gourmet food by comparison. Next time I need delivery, I’ll stick to pizza (the several excellent pizza places in the area make up for it being a Chinese food wasteland).

We stop in here and get food for carry out. The wait is long, because they prepare it fresh. We love to get the Mongolian beef and beef with broccoli. Crab Rangoon and egg rolls are good too.
