Our tour of historic New England took an incredible turn for the better when we made this corner! I have to admit I was nervous that my traveling companion might be shocked to see what I had booked for this Autumn Sunday night. A real farm house from back in the day. Not a fine Victorian home or a stately mansion built by a sea captain but an old farm house! The B&B at Taylor's Corner is out in the countryside not too far from Woodstock, CT. What a thrill it was to pull up the drive and realize just how authentic it was. Brenda greeted us and as we entered it was obvious that this place had character, charm and charisma! My wife fell in love with the place immediately. As Brenda was showing us the house, her husband Kevin showed up and I began to quiz him about the place and comment on how the centuries old construction was so interesting. He took me up to the attic and showed me the rafters and main beam with its hand driven wooden dowels still holding strong. As a wanna be engineer and life long facilities guy it was very interesting to see how they did it back then. The house had low ceilings and tight stairs but our bedroom was plenty big and the bed and pillows were great. The facilities were good and there was plenty of hot water. We loved our room and wished we had another day. Brenda made us coffee a little early then brought us a great breakfast of French toast, sausages, fresh fruit and fresh squeezed OJ. We had fun with the house cat who came to the room to visit. He was sweet.
We hated to leave but there was a big day in front of us. We recommend this place to anyone interested in a somewhat rustic but completely authentic New England farm house.
