An old fashioned restaurant that started out as a hot dog stand when Newtown was a resort destination on Lake Zoar. The food is good, but service can be slow. They offer pizza and a fairly good menu of other items.

The place has lots of history and might feel a little unwelcoming if you are a first timer but, it is worth a try. Everyone in the place seems to know each other and it looks more like a charming old lake cottage than a bar. The menu is old school Italian-American meatballs, lasagna, pizza with decent flavors and good sized portions. The drinks are well made and the bartenders nicely combine hustle with witty banter.

Escargo please, please, please! There is none like it! The pizza has a thin crust which we love. The owner is very lovely and is also the cook. If she's not too busy, she will come out and say hi.
If you want to be noticed, you can be at the bar, or where there are tables for eating and drinks. To not be noticed, you just keep walking to the back, to a cozy table and quiet conversation.
The wait is a thing of the past. The meals are good and come within a very reasonable amount of time.

Went there two some years back only went the second time because the couple we were with both times felt we should give them a second chance after our first disappointing visit.
Both times couples that arrived after us who were regulars were placing their order before our drinks arrived. The food was unremarkable and certainly not wort the wait.

Finally ate here after hearing about how good the food is. The reviews are correct in that this is a very old establishment. The interior is old but clean, mismatched utensils, salad served in those old wooden bowls we had growing up, and our wine was served from miniature bottles. I think this is what adds to their reputation as being in existence for so long. Service was very good. We had the eggplant parmesan and lasagna. Both were pretty good but not the end all as told and the portions were nice sized. We wouldn't necessarily rush back, but will definitely try their pizza which is what they are known for.
