We were booked into this hotel for the last night of our holiday following an exhausting three days at a safari lodge. Our first impressions on arrival were not good. Discarded crisp packets and other assorted rubbish blowing around on the front steps is not a good look. We were shown to our room which looked very tired, with grubby stains on the arma of the armchair and chipped furniture. Within half an hour we were subjected to what appeared to be preparations for a carnival outside of our bedroom window. On making enquiries at Reception i was told that this would probably last until 1 or 2 am the next morning. I asked for a move to a room not overlooking the festivities. We were moved to a 'Courtyard' room which looked equally tired, was just as tired but had the addition of piles of dead, dry leaves piled up on the carpeted walk-way outside of the room. As the best option available we settled down as best we could and hoped that we would would manage some sleep later. At this point we went down to the bar/lounge area for a drink and were informed that due to a function we would not be allowed to sit in the comfortable seating area but were welcome to order drinks at the bar and sit there!

The longest evening of my life ensued with the external noise eventually subsiding at around 3:30 am before any sleep was possible. I realise the hotel has no control over external noise but they should have warned customers before the event. There was no excuse for the tired decor, the restrictions on customers in the lounge area or the accumulation of dead leaves around our bedroom area. This hotel was a nightmare!

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel!

This hotel is my favourite and preferred hotel.I love and enjoy my granny. She really is a special old lady. One of a kind, fast disappearing across South Africa. She should be nurtured and preserved.
I have reviewed her before but wish to point out that the devil is always in the detail.Small little detail needs attention to help the old lady along.I stayed in room 42 end November 2017 and again 6 weeks later in Jan 2018.Cables were still hanging from behind the tv,the channels on the tv were not those explained in the directory of services, the top of the small side table detached from the legs!,the toilet roll holder still broken,no turn down service, water in fridge not replaced.
The umbrellas at the pool not enough. Not tidied up after every day.No service at pool.No cushions on the loungers.
Breakfast not what it was.Food on verandah shop bought(calamari, prawn scampi),frozen hamburger patties.
Carpets dirty,on stairs and in corridors.
I dont want to complain I want my favourite to be well. Please, please help her.
Still perfect location, still my favourite will take her warts and all any day but please look after her.

We stayed at the Beach Hotel from the 2nd to 4th of January. We stayed in 2 Executive rooms which are to be recommended. The rooms were spacious and had lovely outlook. The one on the ground floor suited my disabled mother (not in wheelchair but can't walk far). It looks out to the back of the swimming pool and across to the sea. This room is set up as a double with twin beds and has a small sitting area with a sleeper couch. We had the executive room on the first floor. It has a four poster bed and small sitting area with a sleeper couch. (We didn't use them so I can't comment on how good they are. Both rooms had spacious bathrooms with walk in showers and lovely big baths. The upstair room has a large balcony while the room below has a small balcony. The hotel has 3 restuarants. The verandah which has pub food, a buffet restaurant and Ginger an a la carte restaurant. The burgers were the only food I'd recommend on the verandah though the other restaurants were excellent. Service was very slow and waitresses disappeared and reappeared. Cocktails are to be recommended on the verandah. Breakfast was good but somewhat slow at replenishing. The general cleanliness of the rooms was good but the communal areas e.g. stairs and verandah area needed a proper vacuum and the latter needed a deep clean. I was astounded to find that the hotel wished to charge a R50 deposit for a second room key card. 3 levels of reception staff were not able to resolve the issue. The GM has been responsive to feedback. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and woudl return.

Should you decide to have an early morning breakfast at the Beach Hotel in Port Elizabeth be sure not to expect service. This establishment is tired and it seems the staff too. No evidence of any management. The place is filthy and falling apart with unkept gardens. Such an amazing location totally and sadly wasted.

Two nights at the beginning of our holiday and probably the worst hotel of our visit. Not to say it was awful, it's just a bit tired and unremarkable. Some of the reception desk staff really need to understand their job better. If you say you'll find out some information like if the room is ready and you don't, then don't say you'll find out. Try and be knowledgeable about what local attractions there are, don't just look at me blankly and only be able to suggest one thing. Also, smiling and having a friendly demeanor helps too. Contrary to what some other people have said I found the waiting staff great, particularly in the bar/cafe area, though it was difficult to know who was staff at breakfast. I also understand the lack of enthusiasm for the food as I only went with some of the more appealing items and there was nothing remarkable about those. There is a good swimming beach nearby which is a plus, life guards included but it was a bit windy when we were there. I wouldn't go to this place again but unfortunately the travel agent chose it for me.

Room Tip: Ground floor room good for baby monitor as can reach the bar area. This did lead to us hearing a bit...
