“Best Pizza in the World!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

Well, other than the fact that even with reservations, you still have to wait an hour plus for your pie, the pie is the best on the planet!

Thin crust and done to perfection, some say it's worth the wait.

All the pizza shops on Wooster St. in New Haven's Little Italy are great and everyone has a favorite and though i like them all Sally's is my favorite and was Frank Sinatra's also.

“Excellent New Haven Pizza!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

As you know, there is a pizza war in New Haven (Pepe's, Sally's, The Spot, Modern...) and everyone has their favorites! Sally's is supremo! Very small place so the lines are very long and it is hard to get in especially on weekends. The place is old which is part of the charm. Been going to Sally's since I was a small child, and we've been taking our kids forever! Love the fresh tomato pies. Expect to wait. Service is not the best but Flo the waitress/owner there is part of the charm. Always a tight squeeze in the booths. If you are super hungry, bring crackers cause you will wait long in line and long time for your pies! Stroll down to Libby's for italian ices and pastry. If Sally's is too crowded try Pepe's (good luck though their lines are longer!) and also The Spot!! They are all great!!!

“Wait, wait, wait ... soon.... almost there... hey why did they jump the line?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

Thin crust pizza from Sally's - or rival pizzeria Pepe's - is a much talked about attraction of New Haven's Wooster Street (aka "Little Italy"). I haven't been to Sally's for decades, so wanted to eat there during our recent trip. So we walked from our hotel and got in line behind three groups of 4 people each... And we waited, and waited outside in the chilly February evening. A few other parties arrived and went right in, and since there was not a Maitre d' or a waiting list and Frank Sinatra was not in our party, we waited some more. You might want to bring along a snack (or a flask) to enjoy while you wait.

After another hour we went in and ordered. You better want pizza at Sally's, because that's all there is. No, you can't get pasta or a sub or a salad, just pizza, soft drinks and beer (no wine or mixed drinks). Be ready for pizza that's ... well... different. It's oval, not round, has a very thin crust, a lot of tomato sauce on it, only a little cheese (which costs extra), and is served on a table sized cookie tin. Don't worry about having room on the table for plates because there are none.

The thin crust was excellent and that's what Sally's is all about.. The sauce was very tasty, smooth and rich. The toppings were skimpy as was the extra-cost cheese. The large pie was huge, the small pie tiny, but we had enough take home for lunch the next day. Since we were starved by the time we got our food, we really enjoyed it.

Door-to-door from our hotel (ten minutes walk each way) Sally's was a four hour event, so plan accordingly. Bring lots of quarters if you plan to park on the street. I'm not sure if the waiting was worth it, but, hey, once every decade or so it's something to do for a whole evening. And it must be an evening, lunch is not served and they close at 10pm.
