Residence Inn Mystic Groton

We had recently stayed in another Residence Inn and were very happy with it, so this one was a little disappointing.

First, once we loaded all our things onto the baggage cart we noticed that there were no handicapped ramps anywhere on our side of the building. In order to get the cart on the curb we had to lift it up, which was quite a challenge considering we had enough luggage to need a cart.

We also had an issue with both televisions in our 1 bedroom suite. The tv in the living room took a ridiculous amount of time to turn on. So much so that we actually turned it on and off several times thinking it was broken. Finally we turned it on, left the room, and a few minutes later it was on. The tv in the bedroom did not work at all, and the remote died while it was on. My mom couldn't find the off button on the tv, so she had to leave it on while our baby slept.

In the morning the buffet was standard fair. The eggs and sausage were fine, but the pancakes were rubbery to the point of being inedible, but they did have 2 waffle makers, so my husband was happy that he didn't have to wait.

One high point for this stay was the staff. We had booked a 1 bedroom suite, but upon check-in the reservation was listed as a studio. The very nice people behind the desk said that because the studio and 1 bedroom were the same price, the computer sometimes confused them when the hotel was fully booked. Despite that, they quickly found us a 1 bedroom suite and we were in our room in no time. Additionally, my mother was inquiring about whether the desk would prefer for her to pay for a bottle of vitamin water with a debit card or a $100 bill, they told her not to worry about it and to accept it as complimentary.

Compared to our experience with the Residence Inn in Bethlehem, PA this was a bit of a let down, though still comfortable.

Room Tip: A 1 bedroom suite was a must for us since we were traveling with our toddler. She went to bed relat...

Dear MrsSLO:
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and letting us know about your recent stay with us. I'm sorry you had difficulties with unloading your luggage when you arrived. There is a ramp to wheel your luggage cart up that is located in front of the handicap parking spaces. We also offer luggage assistance to all guests if you should ever come back to visit us. Regardless, I am sorry for the inconvenience you experienced.

I'm sorry for the issues you had with the TV as well. We have all brand new flat screen TV's, and this is the first I have heard of what you are explaining. I will be sure to address this with our Engineering, Housekeeping and Front Office Departments if anyone else has the same issues.

Thank you again for letting us know about your stay. I hope you would consider visiting us again if you are ever in the Mystic area!

Our room was spacious and lovely. After reading some review I was concerned that it might be noisy. It was extremely quiet. We had an end room on the second floor and it was quieter than most 5 star hotels. The breakfast which I had also read about being crowded was not. They had a lovely outddor patio that my husband and I enjoyed having coffee. My only complaint is the inddor pool is not only small but really smells of clorine. However that is a minor issue. The location is great. You can walk to shopping and it is only a mile away from the Seaport.

Our room was spacious w/warm decor. We had Avery pleasant stay- the staff was accommodating and professional all the time- which was refreshing. Our family will definetly return to Residence hall- the cons were: our room had some odor whether from smoking, etc we just couldn't tell it was unshakeable (we were in the non-smokers wing) overall I would go back & recommend it to friends. The town is small & layed back- It gave us a chance to forget big city stress. The aquarium is spectacular- very nice family atmosphere.

My extended family and I stayed here for a wedding and all of us found this hotel to be exceptional. Reasons why:
-- terrific breakfast (waffles, hot buffet items like pancakes and sausage, cereals, pastries, lots of healthy choices like oatmeal, yogurt, milk (skim or 2%), bagels
-- 24 hour beverage bar (coffee, tea, cocoa)
-- nice amenities (pool, hot tub, outdoor game area for basketball or pickleball) with a good workout room
-- excellent customer service (friendly, respond immediately to requests)
-- very clean (one morning we left for only 45 minutes or so but still came back to a freshly cleaned room- very nice)
-- good location (right off the freeway but we never once heard traffic or other noise)
-- well appointed suites complete with a small kitchen with dishes, fridge, microwave
-- added touches like microwave popcorn in the rooms

We had a 5-star stay and will definitely stay there again if we're ever in Mystic again.

We needed a space for 5 adults plus a baby and found the 2 bedroom suite (with a fold out couch) worked well. The grounds are quite and our first floor location looked out onto woods. We ate a very adequate breakfast (included) - the Belgian waffles were wonderful! - Only issue was that the pool was quite cool and the jacuzzi did not heat up. I see the place was recently sold so perhaps they are going to do a big upgrade.

Room Tip: The rooms in the back are very quiet - nicely maintained grounds, including a paddle ball court.
