We have recently returned from a 3 night stay in the Gem, one of three properties enclosed within the same building complex.
In terms of the complex, the building from the front looks a normal end of terrace house, a charming outer facade for a well laid out structure within. It was an added bonus having the reinforced outer door, disguising the close behind which leads to the various properties. This was especially useful for ourselves as it was an added level of security for our little family.
The close has three outlets, one door within leading to the "Little Gem" the holiday flat at ground level, the spiral stair way leading to "The Gem" and the open entrance at the end of the close leading into the garden at the end of which the "Hidden Gem" is situated - well presented in the holiday cottage style.
The garden has been finished to a high standard, a theme meticulously detailed throughout the evident renovation of the property. Whilst the garden is communal, there are two seating areas which would be perfect for warm summer days and ideal for those looking to relax with family or friends. It was a personal bonus to have the large and modern storage shed, as it offered the perfect space to store the pram that we had brought along with us.
The property itself is perfectly situated, less than a minute from the harbour and various amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shops and takeaways. Alongside being only minutes from popular beaches, the location also offers the option to venture towards the quieter side of the island, notably being close to the starting point for the cycle route to Fintray Bay and in turn around the island.
The Gem itself is aptly named as it offered a spacious and modern facility for our family of 3. This was an extremely pleasant surprise as it can often be difficult to find a property for let that has been modernised to this standard on the island, and we therefore considered this a rare treat.
With regards to the interior, we had several comments from family about the level of interior design, reflecting the great care that has been placed in each ornament and decorative touch. The lounge area offers two couches, both comfortable and with the facility to operate as sofa beds, which is particularly useful for families. Alongside this there is a small dining area, which has the added bonus of views onto the sea, offering a refreshing way to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The bedroom is well designed, offering two comfortable single beds, alongside wardrobe storage space. A well place skylight offered a surprising level of light, and the ability to control the blind via the electronic panel on the wall was a nice modern touch.
The kitchen facilities had been well organised, with another breakfast table within. Again, the kitchen had been finished to a modern standard, and the provision of tea and coffee was a nice touch.
Lastly the bathroom, although small had been designed well and was finished with a clean decorative style. The shower cubicle had been placed well behind the door and despite the small space did not compromise on the space required. Each fitting within had been installed with a modern view, to the point of which we are considering stealing the ideas for our own home!
To summarise, the Gem despite not being an overly large property has been designed with the concept of creating a bright, modern space and has succeeded in doing so brilliantly. It is a testament to the showcase of interior design and the difference this can make in the comfort of a stay.
We would personally like to thank the owner Jane who has evidently placed a lot of thought and care into the provision of the holiday lets on offer and would most certainly love to stay at the property again. Should the property remain available, we would even consider making our stay a yearly trip in future. Thank you for an excellent stay, and we hope to visit again.
I was tempted to keep the Gem all to myself but decided it was only fair to share! We stayed in the flat (the Little Gem) which had a twin room & 2 sofa beds. Really good location as on a quiet street but only few mins walk from the town. We also had a look at the Hidden Gem accom at the other end of the garden which had a sofa bed & mezzanine double bed. Both fresh & nicely finished with a sun trap of a garden in between with bbq & plenty of seating. The owner Jane was lovely & very helpful. I would highly recommend!
The locations is great 5 mins from beach and pubs and restaurants . Flat is immaculate all mod cons very comfortable Famlily and pet friendly . Lovely communal back garden area to lounge about and chill out in . Owners very friendly any problems you can phone them direct.Spent a lovely weekend there with my 2 friends will be back soon .
