This Hampton Inn is an older, nicely-renovated property in a convenient (but not exciting) location just off I-95 in Groton.

The best part about Hampton Inn is that there are (usually) no surprises, and this one lives up to that promise. Clean and comfortable room, spacious lobby, typical Hampton Inn breakfast, and friendly staff. The wi-fi scored midrange on the speedtest site; there are ample TV channels to watch on the large hi-def TV. A crock of soup (free) and fresh cookies added a nice touch in the lobby in the evening.

Couple of drawbacks – at breakfast, out of hard-boiled eggs and fresh fruit; the attendant said they were waiting for an order to arrive. And, there seemed to perpetually be a sign on the front desk telling me that the desk clerk had stepped away to assist a guest. At a hotel of this size (and revenue), they should staff more than one person during evening hours.

There are chain and independent restaurants within a short drive of the hotel, and I chose to drive 15 minutes to Ford’s, a very-well done traditional, small, lobster place in Noank, right on the water. It was a treat (see my review for that restaurant).

All-in-all a comfortable and convenient place to stay, and this Hampton Inn’s rates are notably lower than the one a few miles up the road in Mystic.

Clean, excellent service. Was treated great at check in and had no problems at all. Very helpful on recommending places to eat in the area. Will definitely stay here again if ever visiting this area. Highly recommend although a little pricey.

Three adults, one room. Stayed 6 nights here to visit family in the area. Housekeeping consistently only left one towel every day, multiple trips to the lobby desk to get things and always a sign up at the desk saying the attendant was busy, but they would be in the room behind the desk, texting or playing a game on their cell phone. Creamer for complimentary coffee consistently empty, waffle iron was broken the whole 6 days of our stay, so no waffles for breakfast. Refrigerator in room took 3 days to get cold enough to keep beverages cool. Booked in advance and asked for a room close to the lobby as we had a disabled person with us...got put in a room that was as far as possible from the lobby. Hallway carpeting was not swept in the 6 nights we were there. Complimentary cookies in the lobby were unavailable during the 6 nights we were there. Vending machine had been taken out, but there was a soda machine there with the ice maker. Will not stay here again.
