Easy 5 min boat trip across. Fortunately no wait for table at 1130 but when we departed it was a 60-90 minute wait. Beautiful views of harbor and boats. Enjoyed the ahi tuna sandwich and the fish tacos. Coleslaw great because not a lot of mayo! Clam chowder very good but lot of sherry flavor which some may find too much.
BYOB. The Jamaican pineapple ginger soda was refreshing!

This charming outside cafe is lovely.open only for the season, you take a 30 second ferry to an island in the'Ct. River. Outdoor seating under umbrellas and a BYOB policy. Open for breakfast and.lunch. closing at 2::30. Then reopen for dinner at 6.
Do make reservations..only 16 or so tables.
The food is surprisingly upscale and delicious. a seared tuna steak was perfect.
Atmosphere.with a Caribbean vibe is comfortable , and on the water. Perfect spot for summer.

Half the fun is in getting to Marley's ... a 30-second boat ride across to the small island on which it's located. Fabulous atmosphere on a sunny day, all tables and chairs in shaded areas either on the lawn, on the deck, or inside the small building.

Cheery, attentive young staff who are permanently moving on a busy afternoon. Varied menu, with fresh ingredients (try the coco bread -- melt-in-your-mouth!) ... though meals are much smaller and slightly pricier than your average cafe in CT. No alcohol served, but you can BYOB. Some non-alcoholic drinks are served. Free iced water with lemon keeps on coming -- much needed on the 82o day we were there!

Always nice to stroll around the island and through the marina (takes about 5-10 mins) after a meal. Note that dogs are allowed at the restaurant, so if you're allergic to them or don't like them (or have kids who might be nervous around them), consider staying on the mainland for your meal. Parking can be tight in the small town of Essex, but it's never a long walk to the boat launch.

We go here about once a year -- always a relaxing lunch in the sun!

Nice spot for an outdoor lunch on Essex Island. It's really an island - you take a free water shuttle that ferries you across the boat channel to the island. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon when we got to Marley's; almost a 30 minute wait for two sandwiches AFTER we placed the order! So be patient, relax and enjoy the atmosphere surrounded by all the yachts. Sandwiches were really good: chicken sandwich and Cubano.

The owners and chefs of this unique restaurant are seasoned restaurant owners and caterers and it shows in everything they produce. Yes, there is a theme of Jamaican cuisine here but also a range of styles and motifs that make the place interesting and the food great. Add to that the fact that many of the tables are outside along the Connecticut River makes this a wonderful seasonal spot. You need to take a water ferry from Essex Village over to the little island in which it sits but I assure you once you get there you feel that you are on an island. Highly recommended.
