You think that you are Austria or Switzerland with a staff full of accents that match the European tradition of service and excellent.

Outstanding rooms. Great bar.

We always enjoy our visit to this place and the way they handle the crowds on checkout day.

Room tip: Most prefer the creekside rooms

Loved our stay at the Sonnenalp. Everyone was very helpful, friendly and willing to help. Our room was perfect. Love the bathroom! The pool, jacuzzi and spa was wonderful. We ate at Bully Ranch and Ludwigs. Both exceptional. Didn't make it to the Swiss Chalet, maybe next time. We will be back!

Room tip: Rooms are quiet.

The Sonnenalp has been one of the great places to stay in Vail for going on 3 decades, as I understand it, and remains my favorite. The hospital personnel are solicitous, professional yet friendly, and go out of their way to be helpful. I love the Bavarian-motif rooms, which are at the same time of good size yet cozy and warm. For those who prefer the Village to Lion's Head, the location is nearly perfect. I haven't any substantive criticism, and only wish that I could visit more often.

It's been a while since I have stayed at the Sonnenalp. It's pretty obvious that there are corners being cut to save money. My biggest complaint was with the room layout in a Blue Spruce suite. Instead of a sofa in the living area, there were two occasional chairs and a side table. It reminded me of a waiting room at a doctor's office. The bed was upstairs. The chairs, table arrangement was uncomfortable. You sat with your back to the fireplace, facing the TV armoire. The staff were not as friendly as before - when our room key would not work, we took it to the front desk and the lady behind the desk took the key and ran it through their machine to reactivate it. Never said I apologize. Concierge had called us prior to our trip and asked if there was anything extra they could do to make our trip more enjoyable. They offered extra pillows and I said that sounded like a great idea. Never got the pillows. It's the little things that can make you great and it's the little things that can bring you down. If I hadn't stayed at this hotel during it's glory days, I wouldn't know the difference. But I have and I did. It's a shame. I will never return to the Sonnenalp. I expect more for $600 a night.

I took a last minute escape to Vail. Sonnenalp was a incredible experience. The staff are friendly and helpful. I beleve I had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in a hotel. I look forward to going back for a longer stay.
