RockResorts has morphed over the years from a Laurance Rockefeller owned business to a Vail Resorts owned business and along the way lost its mystique. It is now comprised of five Vail/Beaver Creek resorts (sadly no tropical resorts), with the Arrabelle being their flagship property.
The Arrabelle’s architecture however makes this resort feel if not mystical at least magical. It totally transformed the Lionshead area of Vail from stodgy 60s architecture to the old world charm of an European village. You won’t be disappointed with the location either since it’s just steps from the Eagle Bahn Gondola. And their private ski concierge is even closer to the gondola. Plus it’s an easy 10 minute walk to the heart of Vail Village (or an even shorter bus ride).
Besides the timeless, elegant architecture and the location, what else does the Arrabelle have to offer? Superior customer service is at the top of my list. Their staff was personable and attentive at all times. I used the spa for a massage service. The facilities and relaxation room were top notch. I especially enjoyed the post treatment unpretentious vanilla gelato treat.
Our hotel room was spacious although on my last trip to the Arrabelle I remember our room being a little small. This time we were in a premium room so that helped with the spaciousness. Although I was told that we couldn’t have a rollaway in the room once I pressed the issue they were accommodating and had it ready in the room upon our arrival.
When you are outside looking at the hotel which is comprised of three buildings it seems like a massive hotel but in reality it only has 81 guest rooms and 21 luxury residences. So it’s run very much like the boutique hotel that it is. Because it has limited guest rooms the room prices are high and the dining facilities are limited to one.
The dining room/bar is called Tavern on the Square. The quality of the morning buffet breakfast was mediocre. Better to order off the menu if you can. Tavern on the Square offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner is casual and family friendly.
