We had read that they had good food so we finally tried them out, or tried to. We arrived indside the restaurant just after their 5pm opening-only to be greeted by a smallish (rat looking) dog running circles around our feet!!!! The female owner's solution was to tell us where to sit while she called the dog into the KITCHEN! Seriously?!?! Needless to say: we left rather than take a chance on the food possibly having dog hair in it. If the CO Dept. of Hlth. had seen this they would've shut them down on the spot.

My husband had the sampler which included three specialties (pierogies, sausage and cabbage rolls). I had the wiener schnitzel which was lightly breaded, generous and really good. Smoked fish is also one of their specilaties, and we had the salmon appetizer. All very nice. Full bar. Seating indoors or out. Live music scheduled certain evenings.

After driving around fruitlessly trying to find a place to park for 1/2 hour in Estes Park during peak season, we decided our only hope for lunch would be in Lyons or Boulder on the way back to Denver.
Villa Tatra is our kind of place. Eclectic, different, relaxed, uncrowded, and unusual. The menu has about 8 items derived from the Polish architect owner. He and his wife have owned the restaurant along highway 36, 20 minutes from Estes park toward Lyon, for 20 years. The beer and wine selections are also widely dispersed from Chile, to Poland, to Boulder. The food was very good, service by the owner and her grandson we fine, and the ambience on the back patio away from traffic perfect.

Large selection of outdoor dining plus a couple of other rooms. They have daily specials and polish beer. Nice assortment of desserts. The owners are very personable and came to our table several times to visit. Family ran. Definitely enjoyed the experience.
