“It was this or a tent”
Reviewed 16 June 2012

We booked this location knowing it was not going to be great and we weren't disappointed. Planning a camping trip in the Colorado Mtns 6 months in advance you never know what the weather will bring so we hedged our bets by booking Silver Creek. So compared to tenting, it wasn't bad. The shower was hot, the microwave worked well and the sheets were clean. The housekeeping people were very very friendly. Our kids swam in the pool and used the hot tub. The restaurant on site had decent food. It isn't a resort. It is an apartment complex/ hotel/??? It needs a face lift. Who ever owns the place needs to clean and update. It wouldn't take much to clean the air ducts, wash the walls and open the windows to let some fresh air in. I wouldn't stay at the "resort" to use it as a resort. Use it as a tent and you won't be disappointed.

A friend of a friend owns one of the units here so our experience with the unit we stayed in was great but it's not your typical rental unit. With that said I will comment on the other things I noticed about the place. We did hear alot of hammering and construction going on during the day so I am hopeful that means they are upgrading the place. The elevators and hallways are in desperate need of updating. Very old carpet, unappealing hallways and while not dim, not exactly well lit hallways either. Upon our checkin we were directed to an office for a Welcome Kit. We were subject to a sales pitch to set up an appointment for an hour to talk to him about a timeshare. The incentive was 2 nights in Las Vegas at the Riviera (not the best place in LV) and $100 gift card for food in the Grand County area. The Welcome Kit was coupons to nearby restaurants that were printed off the internet. We initially set an appointment but after further thought decided our vacation didn't warrant time for a sales pitch on something we had no desire to purchase. Due to the bad reviews we didn't even try the restaurant. I will say that this place has so much potential. The location is great, there is an indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub, game room, ski shop and other amenities (which we did not use). I hope they bring the place up to date and improve the restaurant as it could be a great place. And, the front desk staff was friendly and pleasant.

Its unfortunate, but the Inn at Silvercreek has really let a lot go over the past 10 years. A few of the units themselves have been remodeled and updated, but the main part of the lodge is still stuck in 1985. The Free WiFi is only available in the lobby and at peak evening times is slower than a dial up connection. There is no internet available in the rooms, which by the way still have CRT based 20" TVs and no movie channels.

I do realize that most families go to this area for the outdoor activities, but the amenities are out of date.

Room Tip: If skiing, choos a first floor location as the evevations are not located close to the outside doors...

I had read reviews and saw lots of negative ones, but decided to try the Inn at Silver Creek anyhow. Big mistake! We met college friends for a ski vacation the week of March 12th, 2012. We were skiing at SolVista Basin and needed a place close to the slopes. We booked with our friends and both had studio suites....both paid the same price as well. Upon checking in, we found the lobby to be very nice and the staff welcoming. However, our check-in process was NOT smooth. Bill, at the front desk, could not figure out why we had 2 sets of keys for our room. It was a studio suite, so we had actually had 2 rooms -- one with a king bed and bath, the other adjoining room with a murphy bed, hide-a-bed, bath, & kitchenette. It took a good 15 minutes for Bill to figure out the room situation. After finally getting our keys, we were asked to visit with Bob to receive a complimentary gift pack. This was just a disguise for a high-pressured sales pitch. We were NOT interested in hearing a presentation about ownership, but Bob wouldn't take NO for answer. He was very rude when we told him we weren't interested. Our suite was on the 1st floor and it was in desperate need of a major remodel. The king bed was saggy and uncomfortable. The murphy bed mattress was comfortable, but the hide-a-bed was horrible. I had to put the springs back in that had all fallen to the floor just in hopes of keeping the mattress in the frame. The TV's were old box style ones and the one in the master suite was on a table that looked like it was going to collapse. The TV was tethered to the wall. The kitchenette was decent....small, but had dishes, etc. to meet our needs. The microwave looked like one of the 1st microwaves to be invented. It had more knobs that I knew what to do with! The bathrooms were disgusting. Both bathrooms had jacuzzi tubs, but there was NO way I was putting my body in one of them! The woodwork around the tubs was falling apart and the fixtures were corroded. The tubs were both stained. The toilet wouldn't flush unless you held the handle down for several minutes. We were very displeased with our room, especially once we saw our friends' room on the 2nd floor. Their room had been remodeled and was much more up-to-date than ours. However, they complained that the toilets wouldn't flush properly.

We did inquire at the front desk about our rooms since we paid the same amount, but theirs was clearly much better than ours. They had lots of excuses, but what it boiled down to is a lie. They said that each room is owned by someone and that person is responsible for remodeling/redecorating the units. We've been staying at RCI properties for almost 20 years and we know that isn't how it works. Since we have family members who own timeshares, we know that owners pay a yearly maintenance fee and the resort is responsible for the upkeep/remodeling/redecorating, etc. of the rooms and property. We also understand that an owner doesn't "own" that unit.....they own a share of the unit, so their excuse for our room being substandard was really BS!

We did enjoy our location/proximity to SolVista, but will NOT stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask if the room has been remodeled or if it's still from the stone age!

Rooms were clean and showers were hot but decor in serious need of updating. Whirlpool tub in room was a little gross and cocking around shower was in bad shape. Afraid to sit on couch it's so old.
