“Great ski vacation for young family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2011

We stayed at the Inn at Silvercreek over New Year's with three children. The kids stayed in the main room with sofa and Murphy bed, kitchen, three balconies, and its own bathroom with a Jacuzzi/steam bath. We had the separate bedroom with comfortable king-sized bed and our own bathroom and closets. The place had rustic decor (used the fireplace every night more for atmosphere than heat), as one would expect in Colorado -- and what you go there for. It was spacious enough for our family of five not to trip over each other. Kitchen small but had what you need for basic food preparation. We found it relaxing, accommodating to skiers of all ages tromping around in boots. We were actually glad it wasn't too fancy or prissy, and we could relax and enjoy ourselves without having to worry about tracking a little snow onto the carpets near the doors, which looked as if they could take it (and had taken it!). Sol Vista is a great little family ski area with lessons for kids of all ages (ours are 5-9-12), good lunch facilities, baby-sitting for the little ones, mostly blue trails, some (relataively easiy by Colorado standards) black slopes for more expert parents or older kids Staff was polite, helpful, and gave us recommendations for eating in the area. We saved money by buying partially prepared food and "cooking in," but eating out on average once a day. We want to go back in the summertime to visit Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park, balloon rides, see wildlife and hike. We hope to return with older children and go to Winter Park for their more challenging slopes. We also went cross-country skiing at the YMCA's Snow Mountain Ranch next door (a world class CCX facility). We had tried to get reservations there but found them impossible to get. Still, we could use their ice skating rink and ski tracks, warming house, etc. We loved it and are thinking of purchasing a condo at SC if we can find a winter week during school breaks, then trade for summer, or vice-versa. This was ideal for our family, which loves the outdoors, and our rooms were comfortable and in good condition. No compaints. Oh, and our kids (and we) loved the heated pool at night with snow falling into their hair. For our situation, a very good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner unit. We liked the extra views and balconies.

We stay in the Winter Park area several times each year and we've watched these units over the past few years and knew the struggles they've had. We wanted to stay in the Granby area so we booked anyway. Yes, hotel is old and dilapidated. Rooms are dated and need new kitchens/baths/carpet etc. We paid extra to get a loft so were assuming there was at least 2 baths but it was only one. The upstairs loft had 2 beds with a HUGE closet that was a waste of space. Put a bathroom or another bed in there and make it worth the while.
Happy note, we called for maintenance as our fireplace was kicking smoke back in the room and they were very responsive and he was a great guy and did everything he could to make sure our stay was a good one. Stay away from the restaurant...not a happy place.
Kids enjoyed the indoor/outdoor pool and whirlpool. I hope someone comes in and invests in hotel as it could be a really good destination.

Room Tip: Not sure what I can say to help but to ask front desk for private owners units that have been remode...

We just returned from this place. We spent 3 nights in a suite rented on VRBO from a private owner. We looked at several other condos in the place while we stayed there and they are all being redone and the place is clearly on its way to becoming THE place to stay for elegance and value, if you want to ski Winter Park or visit Rocky Mountain National Park. The staff was friendly and helpful which made the stay even more pleasant. It felt a lot like being on a cruise ship without the rocking. The hot tubs are great, especially the ones outside where you sit in the hot tubs while snowflakes melt on your face. We LOVED it!!!

Room Tip: The best value is probably on VRBO.com, but the people at the front desk are great about telling you...

This is absolutely the worst lodging experience I've ever had, both at home in the states and abroad. Old, dilapidated, grungy, dirty, smelly, brokendown, dingy, disgusting, dismal, depressing - I could go on forever. The people at the front desk were so blatantly rude and disinterested it was almost hilarious, The ugly buildings were surrounded by ugly ancient parking lots, the endless ugly hallways inside led to uglier rooms, all looking like they were built and decorated in the 1980s. Appliances, laundry facilities, fixtures in the rooms all worked intermittantly or at approximately 50% capacity. I had to try and sleep at night listening to loud, drunk conversations coming through walls that were so paper thin that I could clearly understand every work spoken - at 1AM. An ancient on-site resturant/bar was filled with a handfull of local lushes, and served the most horrible food I've had in a long, long time. The creek at Silver Creek is non-existant; literally, there is none. What made me so sorry about paying even $10 dollars to stay in this dump (and believe me, I paid a LOT more than that for 5 nights), is that this hole at the end of the world sits right smack in the middle of paradise. I had to stay here due to some arrangements made by others involved in a group project, and I'm so sorry that I have this bleak memory associated with magnificent Colorado.

Keep driving to Granby, and stay in town. Keep driving to Winter Park, and stay there. Keep driving right down the road and stay at the YMCA of the Rockies in one of their incredible cabins. Whatever you do, despite what these other hallucinating people who have written positive reviews on here might say, just keep driving past the Inn at Silver Creek.

there seems to be alot of bad reviews and I was leery of my stay here for a week .. but all turned out just fine .. it is an old resort and it shows its age in many places .. our one bedroom condo with the separate bedroom was great for us .. full kitchen but small oven, dishwasher, refreg, full sink, coffeemaker in both rooms and all pans and cooking items .. stone fireplace to burn firelogs not firewood .. standard tv's in both rooms with digital tv reception .. main room showed carpet wear but separate bedroom really nice .. baths aged and none working whirlpool tubs .. wish they had some kinda handle to help get in and out of the deep tubs .. porch for the sep bedroom and living area .. living area with Murphy and couch beds .. all were clean and enjoyed the Murphy for laying on and watching the fireplace .. every thing listed like the gym, hot tubs, racket ball and such were very nice .. pool was drained for cleaning .. on site pub was a local hub for the community, never ate there .. none existing wifi, only one bar in the lobby but you can reach open wifi on the porch from somewhere .. really friendly cleaning staff but the front desk were cold and seem to bother them to use them .. very pet friendly and our beagle loved the place and we the price of $25 for the week for their stay .. one side of the main lobby housing seemed to be condo and the other side over nite hotel .. lot of business workers on the over nite side ..nice quite place with on site security so we felt safe there at all times .. the large grocery store that uses Korgar discount cards down the driveway was excellent for food and pre made food, pharmacy, Star Bucks ... liquor store, McDonalds and Subway there also in small shopping center .. and gas station .. eveything we needed .. Granby, well it was a typical hunting town and never ventured cept to travel thru it to the national park and other places ..

I mentioned this place reminded me of the movie the Shinning to my wife and she said no kidding it did .. those long long hall ways with rooms on each side, all we needed was some kid riding Big Wheel and or see 2 twins sisters and we be scared ****less !!

Great clean place to stay .. I repeat clean yet worn .. who cars if the concrete is cracked in the parking lot, you have to actually run over it to bother ya ..

Only real gripe was the ice machine for our whole section didnt work
