We've skied Sol Vista three times in the last two years. Our kids are now 10 and 8 and it was the perfect place for them to learn to ski and build their confidence. The ski school had great instructors that our kids really connected with. It is not the impersonal mad house we experienced at larger Colorado ski areas. There is only one base area, so you can give your kids a little freedom and feel safe knowing they will not get lost.
Our spring trip this year was marred by the decision of the resort to close the lodge cafeteria for spring skiing. We found it extremely frustrating as parents to be told the only dining option while skiing was a sit-down restaurant with wait staff. When you are skiing with kids (isn't this supposed to be a family oriented ski area?) you want a quick "grab and go" lunch, not an hour and half affair at an overwhelmed sit down restaurant. The waitress told us they were "totally swamped" due to the closure of the cafeteria. No kidding. Whoever made this decision should seriously rethink this ridiculous cost saving measure.
