My family and I read about this cemetery which supposedly has Doc Holliday's grave while we were in Glenwood Springs, so we decided to visit it. It is well worth the trip as the cemetery has a number of older grave sites. As the information in the cemetery states, Doc is supposedly buried somewhere there (although nobody knows exactly where - and some will say that he is likely buried closer to the bottom of the hill and not in the cemetery itself). As others here have stated, it is a hike to get to the top of the hill where the cemetery is located, so bring your hiking shoes/boots and be prepared to walk a little. There are 2 paths to the top. There's a main gate/path which is better marked. Our GPS took us to the alternative path, which is via a neighborhood. The cemetery itself isn't being taken care of (see the photos with the overgrown weeds), so some of the tombstones are difficult to read. I would still suggest a visit if you are in the area and have the time.
I am a Doc Holliday fan and was looking forward to seeing this. It is a hike, 1/2 mile uphill. I had on flip flops which was not ideal but I was not going to let that stop me. The cemetery is really cool and we walked around just to read some of the older tombstones. Come to find out, he's buried there "somewhere" so the marker is ceremonial. The view is pretty good too. There are NO bathrooms up there, be prepared in order to make your experience the best it can be
Great side trip, but prepare to hike up a hill in altitude.
Nice trail to hike, even for small kids. Takes maybe 30 minutes to the top.
Lots of history and well annotated markers along the way.
Views are spectacular from the trail.
Take water with you unless you are a camel.
I cannot tell you how many steps you will take. I cannot tell you how much elevation in feet you will travel. I will say don't do it in chaps and you will probably end up carrying your jacket if it a heavy one. Take water. I can tell you it is worth it.
Great to take in a little bit of history of the West. Nice that it isn't too touristy. Great views of the Hotel Colorado and surrounds as well!
I'm a bit of a Old West history buff so I loved this place. Some of the reviews complain about the hike. They should be ashamed of themselves, it's less than. 5 miles. It is up hill but so worth it. Great Old boot Hill cemetery. Has not been in use since the 1920"s. Teaches a great history lesson. Not only is Dox Holiday buried there but so is Kid Curry once a member of the Wild Bunch and road with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Lots of cool old grave stones and some of the best views of the city.
