My wife and I just returned home for a 5 day stay at Dunton Hot Springs, and it was truly a wonderful experience. This may be one of the first places I can say you can 100% unwind. There is something magical about the setting and place in general. The people, the food, the locale, the cabins, location... they have all of it right. If we could just move there.
My wife and I have traveled extensively and been privileged to stay at some wonderful locales, but Dunton is hands down my favorite. Dunton pulls off a very laid back simpler life and still delivers when it comes to service, food, etc. Chef Dennis provided our meals and the food was wonderful. (Top Notch) We spent a few of our evenings chatting with him, and had a great time discussing food, how he prepared items, old times, etc. Our meals were fresh, delicious and always followed by a wonderful dessert.
Eric and Gavin (brothers) we equally great. Each were very helpful, friendly and engaging. We spent a lot of time catching up with Eric and enjoyed our time with him. He was very personable and threw in a few good jokes here and there, all why ensuring we were quietly taken care of. As far as activities go...the hiking is abundant, they offer a solid group of mtn bikes that are above the normal level of rentals, the fly fishing was a great experience as I managed to pull in 8 rainbows in a few short hours along with a great guide (he spent a lot of time with my wife helping her learn, as she has never really fished), the spring, and just pure quiet solitude to read, relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Dunton Springs is not a hoity toidy place, so if you are wanting that, this isn't your place. But, if you love the outdoors, a step back in time to a quieter pace of life, top notch yet unobtrusive staff, stellar food and a beautiful locale, this is your place. We will be returning...really want to come in the winter.
