There is no doubt that when Jim "Biker Jim" Pittenger opened his Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs at 2148 Larimer Street in Denver, Colorado, near Union Station and Coors Field, he was making a statement. Biker Jim is a one-of-a-kind dude and his hot dog business is just the same. Open from 11 to 10 daily, Biker Jim's produces distinctive hot dogs like rattlesnake, ostrich wild boar, reindeer, German veal, Louisiana red hot, rabbit, Elk jalapeno cheddar and jack-a-lope with an equally wild variety of toppings and microbrews. My wife and I wanted to sample the best hot dogs in Denver, to see if any of them compares to Chicago's celebrated Chicago-style hot dog, and friends recommended Biker Jim's. Well, nothing on Biker Jim's menu resembles a Chicago-style hot dog but two of his all-natural Angus beef hot dogs had us wishing that Biker Jim opens a location in Chicago. Love the Classic Dog with the Coney topping, rich and meaty New Jersey chili with diced onions and yellow mustard or Biker Jim's classic topping, cream cheese and caramelized onions. Sides? The house fries smothered with pork green chili and cheese and Biker's baked beans are unique and delicious creations.
