Biker Jim’s has been on my list for a long time – I’ve heard only great things about the food truck and the restaurant. We had examined the menu ahead of time and knew exactly what we wanted by the time we made a beeline for the Larimer St location on a Saturday.
I was surprised at how large the interior was with a high ceiling and decent-sized dining space. I smiled at the line cooks working near the register even though they didn’t really acknowledge us, but was soon greeted within a minute by a young lady.
I chose the rattlesnake & pheasant topped with the International option. The Hubs ordered the wild boar with the Sonoran topping. We also got a half-order of fries to split, guessing the portion would be large.
When our number was called out over the intercom, we went to retrieve our food where one of the line cooks handed us our food baskets. I was impressed just by the dogs’ appearances, but then the guy came back with a huge metal bowl where he was tossing a mass of fries in salt. Our eyes bulged as he carefully transferred the heaping pile into the Hubs’ basket.
These are the best dogs I’ve ever had. The rattlesnake and pheasant were a perfect meat combo, and the boar was just smoky and juicy. I don’t know how the bun held up, but it remained sturdy even with all the toppings. And then the fries were so fresh and perfectly seasoned – they were some of the most perfect I’ve experienced - on par with the Green Line Grill in COS. Usually I vacuum up every last French fry, but on this day the enormous quantity defeated me.
The atmosphere was family-friendly and welcoming. I saw a young couple with two small children, some 20-something hipsters, a group of friends in their 30s, and a handful of Hells Angels in colors who sat at the table next to us with their bikes parked outside. As bikers ourselves (non-affiliated), albeit wearing shorts and t-shirts that morning, we completely understood the appeal of this hot dog joint for everyone of all backgrounds.
Highly recommended!
