“Excellent getaway with natural hot springs”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

We stayed at Avalanche Ranch with a large group, taking up the main large cabin and a half-dozen others, in early March 2012.

The cabins are quaint and clean. The views are spectacular. The main cabin was an excellent "gathering spot" for meals and evening socializing, easily holding a couple dozen people in the living room, kitchen and dining room.

The natural hot spring pools are very well done, and just the right temperature.

The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful.

Nearby attractions that we enjoyed included cross country skiing or showshoeing at Avalanche Creek (5 minute drive), the canyon by the Coke Ovens historical site (10 minutes), and McClure Pass (20 minutes). We also ate at the Redstone Inn and toured the Redstone Castle.

Overall, very highly recommended.

We had some friends come to visit from Denver and wanted to treat them to something special. I knew right away that I wanted to check out Avalanche Ranch after all the amazing things I had heard about it. We rented cabin 11- the Eagles Nest. It had one quenn bed for our friend while me and my fiance slept in the loft on a surprisingly comfortable full matress.

The cabins were super cute and amazingly clean! The attention to detail was very thoughtful (we even arrived to a warm cabin in late Jan. with fresh baked cookies welcoming us). They provided firewood for our wood burning stove and even coffee and tea for the morning.

The hot springs were the best part and since we rented a cabin they were open 24 hours for us. I read a review about them being cleaned other than on the scheduled day but that didn't happen the three days we stayed.

They offered the free use of ice skates, bikes, and snowshoes, which around here is pretty unheard of. The staff was friendly and I can't wait to come back!

My family stayed at Avalanche Ranch in June, 2011. We had one of the small cabins as there are only 3 of us (plus a large dog) at the moment, but it was perfectly suited to our needs. More than enough room with a functional kitchen and bathroom. The location is great to use as a base to visit Redstone, Marble, Carbondale, Aspen and Grand Junction. It is a MUCH CHEAPER alternative for accomodations during the Food & Wine event in Aspen. It's also a bit of a drive, but well worth it given the beautiful scenery. I've recommended Avalanche Ranch to a number of family members, friends and coworkers and those that have visited agree 100%. The farm animals were a great attraction for our infant daughter and provided her first encounters with many of them. We will be back!

I've driven by the Avalanche Ranch multiple times and always wondered what was behind the gates.

Local rumors of the new hot spring fed pools mandated a research getaway trip and we were delightfully surprised with a friendly and capable staff, premium hot spring fed pools and rustic cabins.

Pet friendly.

The pools do get crowded on weekend days but not many around Sunday night or Monday morning.

Quick drive to the Redstone Inn for dinner or lunch.

A special tasting event hosted by Divino Wine & Spirits set the weekend off with some excellent selections.

Room Tip: Cabin 4 (The Dog House) is the smallest and just big enough to function.

This was our 3rd trip to Avalanche Ranch, and again it did not disappoint. The Cabins are great and exactly what you need to get away from it all and just relax. We stayed in Cabin 3 "Sunflower" and the accommodations were perfect, quaint, rustic cabins with everything you could possibly need to relax and unwind, including NO TV!!! One thing that is often overlooked by reviewers is the quality of the toiletries, Teas, and coffee!! The coffee from Steaming Bean Coffee Co, and the Tea from Two leaves and a Bud Tea Co. are some of the best, if not the best I have ever had! This place has it all, and when you factor the price you pay, there are few if any hotels/resorts around that have the amenities offered by AR. Where are you going to get free ice skating, snow shoeing, fishing, HOT SPRINGS!! etc included in your room rate?

The hot springs are without question the best in the area (including Glenwood hot springs) by far. The architecture of the pool layout is absolutely stunning, with a small creek of Hot springs water running through the pool deck and 3 different temperature pools. They are perfect!!!

Grab some snow shoes from the cupboard in front of the office and head towards redstone, just past the "Clay ovens" (what they look like from the road) and almost directly across the street from the entrance to the town of redstone you turn right on cty rd 307 and drive until the road is no longer paved, park your car and enjoy miles of some of the best snow shoeing and views you could imagine. The first 15 mins is pretty cold, but then you get in the sun and start shedding layers, you'll even take off your gloves and hat, trust me!! If you have dogs, they will absolutely love to run off leash as we saw many others doing.

After a long day of snow shoeing, if you still have the energy, head into town to Mi Casita at 3rd and Main street for one of the best cocktails you've ever had!! The Mexican Martini, A mazing!!! the owner is extremely friendly and the food and drinks are delicious, not to be missed and only about 8 mins from AR.

PS-To the reviewer that was complaining about the "Very Busy Highway" in front of AR, umm????? That sound you hear is the Crystal river across the 2 lane road that has a car pass about every 2 minutes or so, if that! Yes the sound of the river could sound like cars, I guess, if you are that close minded, but rest assured that is the sound you are hearing. I got a good laugh at that! Furthermore, you do not have to go over and under an electric fence to get to the fishing spot, if you do, then you went the wrong way. Some people complain to complain, and finding fault in this gem is laughable at best! Go and enjoy, and RELAX!!! Fight the urge to go to the lodge and connect to the wifi, or turn on the idiot box.

Room Tip: Cabin #3 is imo the best value as it is cheaper, has a shower, no tub (soak in the hot springs!!) an...
