The Ameristar is first class all the way! From the front desk to the great quality and cleanliness of the room to the outstanding customer service of anyone we encountered in the casino. We would highly recommend the Ameristar!

We stayed here on our first night of an eight day driving trip around Colorado. The rooms are nicely furnished and spacious. Our room had a nice view of the mountains since we were on the 18th floor. Ask for a room on the higher levels to get a nice view. There is a rooftop pool and hotub that is very nice. The hotel is attached to a nice casino. There are two levels to the casino and various ways to gamble. The restaurants in the complex are a bit pricey, but there are several places in Blackhawk that offer reasonable meals. Staff were pleasant and we had no waiting for either check-in or check-out. You can easily walk to all the other casinos from the Ameristar. It was a bit more to stay here, but worth it. Definetly would stay here again.

8042 feet above sea level and not a win in sight. Ameristar is not the place to go to spend your hard earned dollars if you intend to gamble. Let's face it, between the casino, the restaurants and the hotel, the overhead for this place has got to be almost the size of the National Debt. They can't let customers out the door with the profits. Walking around the casino floor at any time of day or night is the same: people sitting at machines and poker tables, or standing at craps tables. They are feeding the facility only. There is no applause, no shouts of joy, and no evidence that anyone is winning, ever.
This trip to Ameristar was for a birthday celebration, and we stayed in the hotel for two nights. This is a new hotel, and we expected greatness. The lobby and common areas are modern and tastefully decorated. We opted to stay in a non-smoking King, but the room smelled anything but non-smoking. It was clean and attractive, but nothing like we expected for the price. We were tempted to stay in a suite, but that price is even more unbearable, for what is essentially two hotel rooms made into one with a fireplace and a soaking tub. Who goes to a casino/resort to sit around in a hotel room anyway? Our King offered a nice tiled bath, with a small tub and a glassed shower with a super nice shower head. It's a shame that the water pressure is too low to actually derive the benefit intended from the huge shower head. There was a separate water closet, which is nice when there is more than one person staying in a room. The nice Panasonic flat screen television had power on problems, and with the lowest DirectTV package available. There was a coffee maker, a refrigerator and a safe neatly concealed by the large TV console. The 'mountain view' was an ugly back parking lot and some sort of a 'private' road leading up to a contractor vehicle storage area. Parking is free, indoor and spacious. We opted for rooftop parking, which offered lots of open spaces close to the elevator bank.
We dined at the Timberline Grill and the Fireside Kitchen. Both offered great service and good food. Be sure to call in advance and reserve a BOOTH for the Timberline, which is the nicer seating in the restraurant. We visited on Friday evening, June 17th. A blonde female employee of the hotel, wearing a pink jacket, parked herself at the booth right next to us and proceeded to take one business call after another on her cell phone, apparently to demonstrate to her male companion how important she was. We considered moving, but didn't care to create more work for our server by having her move our entire meal away because of one hotel employee showoff. The manager was circulating around the hotel, but either didnt hear the woman, or she outranked him. We weren't sure which. Regardless, he didnt put a stop to her rude cell phone use and loud manner of speaking.
The rooftop pool is small, and only 4 feet deep. The hot tubs were warm, with the interior being more warm than the outside one. The pool facility is surrounded by glassed door/windows, which were designed to be opened. However, because some too-busy to watch their kids parent allowed an unsupervised child to run wild some time past resulting in a hand injury, the hotel will not open them. This results in a hot, stagnant chlorine odor in the pool and hot tub area which is more similar to a YMCA than a resort pool.
We visited the Spa for the 50 minute massage, which was delightful. Be sure to book Sunni for a deep tissue experience not to be missed. The spa is clean and modern, and all of the staff are friendly and eager to please. The lounge offered soothing ambiance, delicious cold cucumber water, fresh fruit, snacks and magazines, along with a lovely gas fireplace.
Overall, our hotel stay was acceptable at best; there was no za za zu, to be sure. I doubt that we would choose to stay there again. By the way, no one even said 'Happy Birthday,' despite requiring a look at our driver licenses at check in. Kind of shabby, Ameristar!

Room Tip: Book the City View and Sunni in the Spa!

Second time staying at this hotel. Check in the first time was fast and perfect-- this time I waited in line for over 15 min. the line was almost to the elevator-- very slow the lady at the front desk kept walking back and forth to the back office and never saying anything like" i will right with you etc". poor customer service.
The buffet is pricey for lunch 14.99 and you can tell most of the food has been reheated for days-- especially the desserts-- macaroons so hard it was a joke-- kinda reminded me of dorm food. The ice tea is from a fountain-- come on-- for 14.99 can't one " brew some nice FRESH-- tea"??
Rooms are very clean and nice-- bed is awesome and so are the linens-- the doors shut or should i say " slam" loudly so don't be surprised if it makes you jump a little when everyone is opening and shutting doors.

Be very careful with your players card-- seems like a great idea to sign up for one-- yet I played all day and never received one comp on my card-- not even a few dollars-- when I asked at the players club what was going on-- they seemed very confused but never added a thing-- kinda odd.
I would sty again but I would not eat the buffet at tall.. go somewhere else for fresh food and tea.!

Room Tip: stay during the week for cheaper rate

Front Desk staff was awesome. It was my first time to stay here and was greatly surprised! I met the housekeeping room inspector - Jan - upon arrival at my room with my "significant other" and mentioned it was our first visit to Ameristar. Within 5 minutes, she was knocking on our door with complimentary robes and telling us to vist the 34th floor for the awesome pool and jacuzzis (both indoor and outdoor) and info on the apa and fitness center as well as great advise on the restaurants on the property. We asked about other areas of interest in the area and she was a wealth of information for off-site areas as well. The room we had was very clean and fresh. The bed and linens were exceptional. What a staff you have!

I would highly recommend this hotel to all of my friends!! *****
