Great place to visit if you are a history buff. Very informative. Awesome monument to courageous people seeking a new life only to have it end in tragedy. Some trails you can hike , museum and visitor center.

Jump up and get breakfast cooking. It's time for a picnic getaway for the day. While the kids are eating breakfast, pack a delicious picnic. Grab some sweatshirts as dressing in layers is always a great idea in the Sierras. Bring plenty of water for everyone in the group. Higher elevations require more water, you know. Head to this state park. Enjoy the museum and gift shop for 30-90 minutes. Then jump on the pine needle covered trails and enjoy some mountain air. Find a perfect spot for a picnic lunch along the waters' edge. Enjoy making some great memories. My next trip up the hill to this park, I will be bringing everyone's hammocks, too.

My husband is a history guy so stopping here was a must. It’s really a great learning experience. The park is beautiful. In March of course there’s still plenty of snow. I can imagine the summer is gorgeous. Overall this park is worth it for the history & beauty.

You can spend an hour here and enjoy it. If you have a little More time it will be worth it. The exhibits are top notch. The history of the railroad, the Indian culture, the Sierra and the building f the highway are all detailed. It’s kid friendly. The museum store is excellent for books on the area and other memorabilia. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The museum is free but they charge for parking. However, if you park on Donner Pass Rd in front, walk 100 meters, it’s free t.
