Marble Mountain Ranch - Family Guest Ranch
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 15 October 2011

...in one of the most remote locations you can imagine. Regardless if you re looking for trail riding with gentle horses, a shooting range, rafting, cooking lessons, fly fishing or other social activities, you ll find it all at Marble Moutain Ranch.
Forget your mobile phone for a few days - you wont have connection here and Wifi only in some areas, there is no Starbucks and no stress. Just participate in whichever activities you prefer, they are all included in the price which is well worth it. The host family, their children and grandchildren are taking more than good care of you and you feel immediately at home in your own cabin upon arrival.
Nestled between padocks, trees and close to a river good for rafting, Marble Mountain Ranch
is a perfect retreat for a few days and the offer to stay there for 3 or 5 days is just the right time frame. Being very early in the season could mean you're one of a very few guests while I was told that the high season boasts a pack of guests, which probably means less individual care - it really depends what one is looking for.
I liked the concept of Marble Mountain Ranch very much - offering such a wide variety of activities with dedicated specialists for each of them. I reckon they rank very much to the top in each category if compared to other dude ranches.

Thanks for the insights and the great compliments. You did in fact get a smaller group size in a "shoulder season" visit. Our usual guest population includes more children/ teenagers during the June - August season and is limited to about 30 guests. This is somewhat small for guest populations compared to many ranches, but smaller group sizes allow us to offer more personalized service and a more broad array of activities. We consider 30 to be our maximum group size if everyone is participating in activities. As you noticed, shoulder season groups are smaller, populated by mostly adult visitors, and more flexible in the itinerary to meet individual guest needs.

We have a special connection with our German guests and appreciate your efforts to visit from your distant home.

Our best to you and we hope you can visit again.

This was one of the best family vacations we ever had. Something for everyone, even a reluctant teenage daughter. The Cole Family were wonderful hosts and expert horse trainers, guides, rafters, cooks and more. Great food - we are planning on a "ranch dinner" after having bought Heidi's cookbook.
No cell phone reception and lots of action meant that we truly enjoyed ourselves and relaxed. If you are into horseback riding, shooting, rafting and other outdoor activities, this is the place to go!
The ranch is a little paradise at which we felt very much at home. Very hard to say "Auf Wiedersehen"!

Thanks for the wonderful comments. It was great to get to know your family and to see your teenage daughter "open up", spar with us, tease, and show her true spirit. Sometimes teenagers seem to be a little slower to reveal themselves across cultural and linguistic barriers. What a good time we had with the three of you~! And now, I actually know how to spell "Auf Wiedersehen"! Come back soon, "D"

As a solo traveler, I look for adventure trips and found a great one at Marble Mountain Ranch. From morning to night there are outdoor activities. Although I expected horseback riding, I was blown away with the spectacular scenic trails and the training in the arena. I loved the shooting range and white water rafting 5 out of 6 afternoons. Doug and Heidi have a well organized system of getting guests outside and moving. Families from young children to young adults were all engaged with the variety of events. The meals and lodging were outstanding.

Thank you for your unique insights and for giving us a chance to serve you as a solo traveler. As you have discovered, it does not take long for the ranch guest population to bond and become one family as we start sharing adventures, meals, and good times. The grandparents, parents, kids, solo travelers, and couples all seem to find common ground and morph into a single ranch family. Thanks again for joining us, and our family hopes to see you again!

What can i say but Wow (and for the benefit of Doug-brilliant).

We've just returned to England from a 3 week trip round California and the highlight had to be the week at Marble Mountain. We booked having been very impressed by the website and thought that the ranch sounded just what we were looking for. You always worry before hand that it may not be quite what you expect. Well anyway we needn't have worried. Marble Mountain ranch was everything we'd hoped for and more. Absolutely beautiful spot and absolutely lovely people. We were made to feel at home from the start by Doug, Heidi and all their family. As a family with 2 boys (10 and 11) and 1 young daughter (3) we were keen that everyone have a good time. Marble Mountain fitted the bill perfectly. Not sure we will ever be able to find a holiday that comes up to this level of all round enjoyment from when you wake up to when you finally collapse into bed. Not only were the activities spot on but so was the food. Heidi and the girls cooked up a feast at every meal so there was never any chance of us going hungry. Highlights of the week morning horse rides through beautiful countryside, horse top shopping, black powder shooting, the final exceptionally wet rafting expedition and of course being introduced to Butt Dart (my middle child now holds the European Record) . Only question now is how soon can we get back!!

Fantastic! Brilliant! Lovely! Our British guests always make us feel so "SPOT ON"! Oh, and we are KEEN to have you return! Sharing the Western American experience is what we are all about, but frankly, we also get quite a lot of enjoyment from connecting to the rest of the world with our global guest population. What a fun family you have, and I hope you can return and bring us some mushy peas, bangers and mash! Cheer-e-oh! (did I spell that correctly?) "Danger Doug"

My husband, 18 year old son and I had the opportunity to spend a week @ "the ranch" with the Cole family. This was a trip I personally have wanted to do for 20 years and finally made my dream come true in honor of a milestone birthday. Marble Mountain Ranch exceeded every expectation and included some delightful surprises. Our experiences were action-packed, fun-filled with excitement, wonderful people (including other guests and staff), gorgeous surroundings and mouth watering meals. My son and husband, who are not 'horse people', thoroughly enjoyed the arena games and trail rides. We all loved the daily river rafting and kayaking. Of course the shooting range was a huge favorite with the guys .(I personally loved the archery and tomahawk throwing!) If you love adventure, the great outdoors and fun, then don't wait 20 years; book your own adventure today. I can't wait to return to Marble Mountain Ranch!

Wow! 20 years is a long wait! Interestingly enough, we just had a guest this end of August who had watched our website for 5 years prior to booking. In her case, it was a matter of letting her daughter grow a bit and take some riding lessons so she could maximize the experience. What ever the motivations, we seem to be seeing increasing numbers of guests who have followed us for lengthy periods prior to booking. Since our guest population is limited to about 30 visitors, this might be more of the norm as we are forced to push reservations farther out in the calendar to find open dates. We hope you can return to us sooner than another 20 years! The Coles
