“Danish cafe downtown in Solvang”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

This is a cafe geared to tourists generally, with Danish crockery -lace curtains, etc. It's been there quite awhile & the room shows its age a bit. That can be nice though - it feels 'homey'.. They serve simple Danish & American cafe food - I had a small luncheon with mashed potatoes with gravy @ Danish meatballs. Nothing fancy -simple clean food like you might have at grandma's house. It was pretty quiet midday on a weekday so I had lunch & a cup of decent coffee while working on some paperwork for under $10. Service was quick and non invasive. This would not be a 'gourmet' experience destination, but was nice as a pleasant , inexpensive respite.

“Bit o Denmark platter for two”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

Really we will drive three hours for lunch, for this one dish. It has all we could need for a real taste of the city we found in Denmark. The dish at this old establishment is the very best in town...I think it was started in the 20's... feels like it, looks like it. Go there it IS Solvang...Nice bar as well. Every employee knows they are working at a landmark. Just across the street from the mission...Enjoy!!!

“Nice hot lunch, cold metal table”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

The meal was good but the serving size was just a little stingy for the price; the pork meatballs were made from extra fine ground meat as they should be, but, I have never seen them made quite so small before, and there were only three! It would have been nice to have just one more.

“Try the Smorgesbord”
Reviewed 16 February 2012

The smorgesbord is outstanding! Also, the schnitzel is authentic and tasty. Seriously worth giving a try, especially if you are hungry.

“Best Monte-Cristo ever...”
Reviewed 6 February 2012

I usually don't bother with writing notes on places we stop for a casual lunch, but the sandwich I had today merits being mentioned. The classic Monte-Cristo sandwich is prepared ahead of time, and placed in the fridge to keep fresh and to help it from falling apart in the final preparation. The whole sandwich (not just the bread) is then dipped in egg batter, then deep-fried and served with homemade raspberry jam. The result is outstanding. Worth the trip alone, but the town of Silvang is cute as well...
