On the day after Christmas, on my husband's birthday, our family decided to visit Picco, long on our list because of it's reputation for freshly made risotto. I'll give some details but to summarize, it was one of the best meals we have ever eaten.
Yes, you can order an entire dinner but sharing the plates, combined with the prompt, professional and courteous service made for a memorable evening.
We started off with several 'appetizers' including kampachi crude, avocado bruschetta, and a grilled octopus which was the most tender and flavorful octopus any of us had ever had. We also had a persimmon salad and plenty of broccoli (with garlic, and lemon all cooked to the perfect degree, including leaves). Yes, we did have a full order of risotto but the other star of the evening was the gnocchi, with housemate fennel sausage.
The other great thing about sharing the small plates is that you can have taste of several dishes and not gorge on anything but delight in the freshness, exceptional preparation and beautifully yet simply presented dishes.
Aside from sitting in an area with an occasional draft of cold air, our day-after-Christmas experience was superlative. Save up your $$ as it is not inexpensive but the memories of this dining experience is free and will stay with you.

Stopped here after cycle ride. Wanted a small lunch with a glass of wine and a view. We got that but the wine was some of the most expensive we had in all san francisco. So expensive we thought the menu must be wrong at almost $50 a bottle - it's only a cafe!! Food is snacky and ok. We enjoyed the paninis but salad had too much dressing. Friends pasta had way too much pesto sauce on. Just a couple tweeks could improve this place massively. And please reduce the price of wine, people would drink (and spend) more and stay longer.

The worse value Caprese salad ever. Tiny portion served with dry bread. It was a ripoff .dont bother with this even if you are tempted by the nice view.

We ate here after biking the bridge and were pleased we did. The view and atmosphere was great, as was the service and food. The pizza's were particularly good.
