Owner description: Anyone interested in plants will enjoy this site commemorating the work of famed horticulturist Luther Burbank, who introduced over 800 new plant varieties, including the Idaho Potato. The site includes an acre of gardens with many of the naturalist's creations, a beautiful greenhouse he built in 1889, and his Greek Revival home.

This is one of the places in the world where science and experimentation were applied to nature. Burbank was the American master of horticulture and agricultural development. He located in the Sonoma Valley for its year-round weather. His career spanned over 5 decades and his work was recognized throughout the world.
The visit is good for anyone or families interested in botany and plants.

I am giving the Burbank Home & Gardens three stars, but only because of the time of year. In the spring/summer, I can imagine that with more flowers in bloom, it would be beautiful. Still, it was interesting to learn about the pink stucco mansion, the tree that almost didn't survive a fire and to learn about Luther's horticultural successes and failures.

the luther burbank home and gardens is one of the more popular school field trips, but it is a place where just about anyone could well discover, and no doubt enjoy a bit of history . . .
if you have never visited the place, you should think about it . . .there are all sorts of "attractions" in santa rosa, but this one gives you a chance to learn about your city's history and the accomplishments of a most amazing man . . .

This would be wonderful in the spring and early summer. The end of September has many of the plants going to sleep for the winter. So plan you visit accordingly.

This municipal park is a fascinating place to visit, not only for flower lovers, but for anyone wanting to know about how many of our flowers, fruits and vegetables came to be. Luther Burbank was prolific in developing new varieties of flowers, trees and vegetables we enjoy today including the famous "Idaho" baking potato, Shasta daisy, plums, berries, walnut trees and others. As described the garden in a city park and the city now owns the buildings on the property. As it is fall most of the gardens except the roses and some other late blooming flowers are past their peak. What I found very interesting was Burbank sold a particular raspberry to the man who founded the village which is my hometown. A very pleasant way to spend an hour or two.
