I had excellent service at the Viceroy starting with a glass if champagne at check-in. The concierge and staff were very professional and attentive. The vibe is young and hip, and I love the way the rooms are decorated .

We had a concert last weekend at the Hollywood Bowl and stayed at the lovely Viceroy Santa Monica. We were happy with sophisticated design and mellow vibe. Jonathan Adler with a darker velvety twist. Little touches like the ice water with lemon on the patio do matter when you are in LA. So many similar boutique hotels in LA of the same age have that worn out appearance, but it seems they have kept this property up nicely (except for the pool and patio which seemed a little dated and weathered). The check in was maybe the easiest I have ever experienced, none of those long disclaimer papers to sign, just, here is your room key, have nice stay (but no champagne like my last stay a year ago). The hands off approach was noticeable throughout our 3 day stay, so nice not to ever be bothered by maid staff or turn downs and the like that endlessly bother you at most hotels. By day 3 it actually seemed like no one even really noticed we were even guests there, so maybe this LA detached vibe went a little far. Was not too impressed with Whist the restaurant on site, middle of road and expensive, not at all on par with other amazing local restaurants like Rustic Canyon or Tar and Roses. With so many talented chefs in Santa Monica and Venice you would think Viceroy could attract one of them to open a new restaurant. Location was great and easy to walk and take short cab rides to pretty much anywhere. The beach is a short walk away too. Would have been nice to be offered a chair or two and towels or umbrella for the beach but alas, we had to borrow some from Shutters. Viceroy is a great place to stay for so many reasons, but hoping they make it even better in the future.

Thank you for your review and feedback. Really appreciate your take on your stay. I am sorry that you felt we were too detached. As for the Champagne we should always be offering at check in the afternoon. We owe you an extra round next time. Thank you and I hope you can come back again soon!

We went to LA for a wedding and were given names of 3 hotels including the Viceroy. Shutters and one other were right on the beach but cost @ $150 more per night. We were thrilled to find that our location was 1/2 block behind the more expensive options and we had a great view of the beach. Our room was beautiful white marble and very spacious - while some of the other wedding guests complained about the small rooms in their hotels.
We were able to walk to the Santa Monica Pier for lots of fun, the Promenade area for wonderful shopping and great restaurants. Each evening we enjoyed drinks by the pool before dinner and the night life at the Viceroy was really fun too. Complimentary champagne was a wonderful greeting and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay! LOVED IT!

Room Tip: We paid a bit more for ocean view but it was worth it to us. Although we didn't have a balcony, we did have two comfortable chairs in front of a large picture window that we enjoyed each evening.

Thank you so much for the nice review! You nailed it on the head as far as what we have to offer, a less expensive beach option but without sacrificing the service and the amenities. We hope that if you come back to the area again you will stay with us.
Cheers,

My husband, 6 year old son and I had a wonderful stay at the Viceroy recently. We wished that we could have stayed much longer and plan on returning the next time we are in LA. We won't stay anywhere else when we visit LA. Here are some of the highlights:

All of the hotel's employees were beautiful, professional and impeccibly groomed as one would expect in Los Angeles, but they were also extremely warm, attentive and friendly. They made my 6 year old feel like a star.

The pool area and cabanas are spectacular. My husband and son preferred to stay at the hotel and skipped the beach.

The rooms are very tastefully appointed and well designed so that they convey a feeling of amplitude, space and light. Some extra thoughtful touches are a separate table for personal grooming items away from the sink so that toothbrushes and cosmetics stay dry and luxurious yet large multiple-use shampoo, conditioner and soap dispensers to mimimize unnessecary waste. I love a hotel that talks "green" and actually follows through!

All and all, this is a marvelous hotel and it is a very attractive inducement for us to return to LA as frequently as possible!

Thank you for the flattering review. We are lucky that LA has such a great pool of talent. And speaking of pools we are happy your 6 years old loves our pool so much! Hope to have you all back with us again soon!

I recently spent only one night at the Viceroy in Santa Monica. The room was beautifully appointed, the common areas were welcoming and lively (during happy hour) and the service was outstanding. I was greeted by the valet warmly, taken inside and offered a glass of champagne or bottle of water while I checked in...

It was such a sunny day that I could barely open my curtains for the sun pouring in...but they did have a nice view of the water.

Overall, would definitely come back!
