I came here annually for a beginning of the school year staff/teacher retreat dinner. (We stayed nearby Montecito at a beautiful but basic retreat center) and this restaurant was one of the highlights of our 2 day trip. There is a main dining room with patio seating, and a private room with a large, long ,rectangular table - seats at least 20+. It's a wine themed room in a modern adobe style - corks and bottles. And the wine is local and good. The food is superb, for over 20 years, I can say that. The owner always stopped in to say hello and made sure he had chosen a good red and white wine to go with our fish or steak or vegetarian meal. I usually ordered fish or steak & was never disappointed. Tastefully prepared and just as I wanted it cooked. Appetizers were great and the desserts were just perfect (usually a dense chocolate dessert and a fruit tart offered). Last week, I was in town with my daughter and we ate in the "regular" dining room; service was good - not great, most likely because they were busy Saturday evening. We had a lovely meal (open for dinner only) and I would still return, although I missed the private room ambiance & service :) This place is always packed and so worth it!

Wine recommendations with our food selections was spot on. Unfortunately they do not have a full bar...just wine, but good choices. My foie gras was prepared with a very tasty sauce. The rack of lamb was more like medium-well rather than the requested medium rare. Service was professional, maybe a little too wordy on the ingredient side

Great healthy food. Superb presentation. Excellent service. Many local organic items. Neat patio and cozy interior. Been in SB for 25 years. This is one of the best place to eat in town. Fine Dining and fairly expensive, but worth every penny.

A "Bouchon" is a traditional bistro from Lyon (I wrote a review last year about one of these). Nothing like that at this place downtown Santa Barbara. The menu is quite sophisticated, creative and includes daily specials. The place is well maintained, and the service is impeccable. The decoration makes it a cozy place, although a little bit dark.
We tried both specials and menu for starters (appetizers), and mains (entrees), fish, meat and vegetarian, accompanied by a local Santa Barbara Pinot Noir recommended by the Chef. Everything was very well prepared and well served. The starters were missing seasoning. Pepper from the table didn't do the trick. Same thing for the mains, although this was corrected with ground black pepper that we asked the waiter.
All in all a place we can recommend both for its charm, the quality of the food and an excellent service.
