A grand tree with a freeway running right beside it almost encroaching onto it. It is beside the old Railway station, but hidden by side roads. It doesn't get the space it really needs but it is still impressive. Why sites such as buildings get more respect than this wonder of nature?

Stopped for a bit in Santa Barbara on my way up the coast. I’ve been to town a few times, did the boardwalk, walked around downtown, and I was looking for something a little off the beaten path. This big, beautiful tree has a cute history, and I’m sure many of the locals can tell you all about it, but there’s also a plaque nearby to give some backstory if no one else is around to do so. If you’re nearby and have nothing else to do, this is a nice place for 5-10min break in your day.

It's worth the short photo opt and history lesson for 2 historical locations in one. See the Fig Tree and right next to it is the retired Southern Pacific Santa Barbara SP142 Train. The tree is magnificent and there is a plaque to read the history and the story. As you walk around the tree you will see the Train. Plenty of parking on the street.

Always love to see a special tree and this one was a beauty - spectacular. It is huge - the reach of it incredible, and its width. It's not even that old - planted in 1876. Love it.

Huge magnificent tree. Truly unbelievable how big it is. Worth a trip since it will be on your way to main attractions anyway.

Going through Santa Barbara with family that had never been here, we had to stop and show them this incredible tree. They had never seen anything like it. The root system is something you have to see to believe and the canopy is massive. Don't miss this wonder of nature.

The fig tree is an awesome specimen with huge roots radiating out from the base of the tree and long, heavy branches providing a shady canopy. It is rare that you see trees of this magnitude. And viewing it is FREE! Parking is on the street or 75 minutes are free in the adjacent public parking lot.

This tree is amazing! I was skeptical when it came up on a list of things to see, but so glad we stopped! It’s huge, I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s free and quick, so it’s worth stopping for.

The fig tree is just behind the train station and is quite a sight to see. Its branches spread very wide and the trunk is huge.

Its an arborus trek to get there, but it would be treesonous not to go. Acorny puns aside - we really developed chemistree with the location. Though honestly I’m stumped as to why this is number 7 on this list. Having said that it was very busy so they should really start another branch - i was green with envy with having to wait in the que. Tree.
