This majestic tree used to mark the place where the 101 highway stopped at State Street for a traffic light...and traffic would back up dangerously. At least while stopped at that intersection one could get a great look at the Moreton Bay Fig, grand dame of Santa Barbara which set the tone for the leisurely and tranquil feeling that was Old Santa Barbara. I was in a fender bender back in the day as traffic rushed over the hill coming into town, and hit cars at a full stop. That was back in 1966. Now with the freeway bypass, you have to seek out this magnificent specimen, but it is worth the search.
It marks a kinder and gentler time.

The tree is surprisingly big. I ate figs the first time in 2017. I really like it. I like the tree too!

....it has a beautiful canopy, amazing roots and a good back story. Thriving for its age, may it live long and prosper. A top tourist stop....not really.....we drove past on our Segway Tour.

Hard to believe this tree is over 100 years old. We drive by this whenever we are in Santa Barbara. A must see!

Unless you're super into Fig Trees, this isn't very worth seeing. Yeah, it's a relatively large tree, but it's not in a great area of town and it's really not spectacular in any way. Don't waste your time unless you're a serious tree-buff.
