“Perfect location. Wonderful property. Professional Service.”
Reviewed 18 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Harbor Retreat was amazing. We expected a lot, but it exceeded that. The professionalism of Paradise Retreats really sets them apart from other rental companies that we have stayed with before. This is as close to the "hotel experience" that I've seen in a vacation rental.

The location is perfect for going to just about anywhere downtown. The beach is a 5 minutes walk away (1.5 - 2 blocks). The wharf is a minute or two beyond that.

Several balconies make it an enjoyable experience no matter what bedroom you stay in and the views of the mountains are amazing both day and night.

Check-in and check-out was simple. Access to keys was even easier.

Directions to the grill and other amenities were readily available. There was a guide to Santa Barbara in the kitchen as well as a book with the owner's personal recommendations on sites and restaurants.

I couldn't recommend Harbor Retreat (and Paradise Retreats) enough.

“This isn't luxury!”

No air conditioning and on arrival date it was 85 degrees.
Called mgmt. company to ask why that wasn't disclosed and was told AC is an amenity and since it wasn't listed then I should not have expected it. I asked if they considered heat an amenity b/c it wasn't listed either. The house does have heat. I was told that very few houses have AC in Santa Barbara. I said "great - I'm from Atlanta and all of our houses have AC -how was I supposed to know?" It's not an out-of-the-box expectation to assume a house has AC - especially if it is listed as luxury. We were told to open the windows when the sun sets and we would get a breeze. Fine but when you open the windows you have to close the blinds because the neighbors are so close. Then the blinds beat against the window frame with every breeze. And there is a dog nearby that barks all the time. And a beer bar that is across the street and one house away. Actually (aside from the noise) the beer bar was one of the highlights of the location.

You get one bath towel, one hand towel and one washcloth per guest. Luxury?
The blankets on the beds were not clean and did not appear to have been laundered in some time. Again- luxury? And there is a $350 cleaning fee?
The fireplace did not work. Neither did the garage door opener.
Would have really liked to use the fireplace as a couple of later nights were quite chilly. We tried for some time to follow the instructions in the house instruction book but to no avail.

Also, if you read the comment about how much some of the previous guests enjoyed the owners bikes, disregard. There are no bikes.

The pictures are enhanced so much as to be ridiculous. Especially the "grand" foyer and outside view.

That is the true description of this luxury town home. Oh......and the advertised rate when we checked in was $50 cheaper per night and a 20% further discount on top of that. Same month, same day of the week. We got hosed for booking in early February. We did not rent this through trip advisor but the mgmt. company that has this unit does not allow posts unless they are five star and pre-approved. I understand why.

Management Response

Thank you for your invaluable feedback. We appreciate your comments, especially those that can make Harbor Retreat more comfortable to our guests. It is unfortunate you experienced some warm Santa Barbara weather that required some AC relief. Most homes in Santa Barbara do not have air conditioning because of the mild climate year round. We do list air conditioning as an amenity at our homes so if it is not listed on the home amenity page then it is not in the home, I am sorry you were not offered fans, which we try to provide to guests when the home warrants it. We have passed on your comments regarding the lack of linens/towels to the owners for their consideration. Our cleaning staff is notified promptly when arriving guests contact us to let us know the home is not adequately clean. We want our guests to be comfortable throughout their stay and your feedback is extremely helpful in ensuring just that. We hope you will consider Paradise Retreats for your future vacation rental needs.
